From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As part of our current research study we would like to know a bit more about you and your involvement on Wikipedia and your use of SuggestBot. Your participation is voluntary, meaning you are free to not answer any questions or withdraw at any time. You can find more information about the study and contact information in the consent information sheet. To respond you can edit this page and write the answers below the questions like it was a talk page. If you wish to submit your answers in private you can email us directly.

If you have questions about any part of this, feel free to let us know. I (User:Nettrom) am the researcher responsible for the project and I’ve got this page on my watchlist so I can respond fairly quickly. I might also stop by to ask some follow-up questions, e.g. to clarify if there was something I could not understand. Regards, Nettrom (talk) 15:50, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

  1. Articles you are interested in.
    1. How do you decide which articles to work on?
      I usually just pick something I am interested in. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
    2. Are there certain features of Wikipedia that help you make these decisions, e.g. recent changes, community portal, WikiProjects, etc?
Not really. If I see something interesting in my watchlist, the new article bot's search results, SuggestBot's posts on my talk page or on WT:SPACEFLIGHT, then I might make a couple of changes to it. Other than that, redlinks, mostly; when I have the time I like to turn them blue. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
    3. What kind of things to do on Wikipedia do you find most interesting?
      Mostly creating new articles. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
  2. How much time (in hours per week) do you generally spend on Wikipedia?
It varies, depending on how busy I am in real life and what else I am doing. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
  3. When SuggestBot has posted suggestions to you, what do you do with them?
I usually look at the cleanup and merge sections first. I might expand one or two of the stubs, but not always. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
  4. What makes a specific suggestion from SuggestBot good or bad for you?
Probably how relevant and interesting the article is to me. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
  5. Do you have suggestions for how to improve SuggestBot? It could be specific types of articles or work you would like to see added, things that need to be improved, or anything else for that matter. Let us know what we should work on!
I'm not sure how the bot selects the areas to list articles from, but some of the suggestions I receive are for areas that I was active in in the past, but am no longer interested in, or areas which I have touched on as they border my interests, but are not part of it. It would be useful if the bot could provide some means to opt-out of certain areas, or only consider edits made in, for example, the last year. --W. D. Graham 22:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
