THE BRAZILIAN SHORTHAIR CAT[edit]

The Brazilian Shorthair cat is the natural breed from Brazil, which has developed without the care of a pure bred cat, on the streets of Brazil, for 500 years, from North to South. Many years ago,in hte 80's the engeneer Paulo Samuel Ruschi, a brazilian born cat breeder, nowadays living in NYC, has founded the breed having the brilliant idea to study in details, genectically and morfologically the cats running in parks , gardens and streets of several cities in Brazil. Indeed, in 1500 AD, when the Portuguese have discovered Brasil, they brought some felines descending from the Felis Iberia in their ships to take care of their food against the rotenders and those are the first one to participate in the blood of the Brazilian Shorthair cat. After 500 years the product of missigenation among brazilian cats and those brought by the Portuguese, gave origen to the beautiful, loving, healthy Brazilian Shorthair purebred cat. In 1998 the WCF- World Cat Federation, the largest Cat Federation in the World, the only one present in the 5 continents and Middle Eastern Region, gave a status of APPROVED BREED to the first and only Brazilian Recognized Purebred Cat, now with more than 10 generations of Pedigreeded cats. The Engeneer Paulo Samuel Ruschi was the founder of the First Brazilian Federation, FBG (Federação Brasileira do Gato, the first Cat club in Rio de Janeiro, called Clube Brasileiro do Gato do Rio de Janeiro, nowadays under another name and the founder of 7 more clubs in the country of Brasil. In 1988, Paulo Ruschi, and his friend Anneliese Hackmann from Germany have founded the WCF - World Cat Federation with only two clubs, his and hers. Now, the largest one in the world. The Brazilian Shorthair project is mananged by the BSICS - Brazilian Shorthair International Cat Society, headquarters in New York City, which is member of WCF whose President is Paulo S Ruschi. Several Brazilian Shorthair breeders have taken Paulo's creation to pursue the dream now reality, to have a unique Brazilian Shorthair Cat as a purebred cat. One of them, the most important of all, is Mrs Sylvia Roriz de Carvalho, a well Known Comendadora, veterinary, painter and cat breeder, shich Cattery Syarte has been breedeng the breed for more than a decade. Several other breeders follow the same footsteps. Now, in all WCF Cat Shows in Brazil, you can see Brazilian Shorthairs now with several generations, not the street cat anymore, competing side by side for titles with other well known breeds. The Brazilian Shorthair Breed was pictured and commented by several magazines in several parts of the world, like Japan, Germany, England, Australia, USA, and many other countries. The Brazilian shorthair cat is unique. And it is the only Brazilian Breed recognized by an International Cat Organization with the power and size of the WCF.
