Bill Starr seems to be a pseudonym. He only wrote one other book 'The Way to Dawnworld' under this name.

from the back of the book: On the Trail of a Golden Comet

Ranger Farstar The dauntless captain of the starship 'Gayheart' had heard of the legendary treasure ship that had been caught in the tail of the comet Wonderwhat. Now he aimed to find it and to turn a hansome profit. And he was willing to face the unknown dangers that awaited all those who attempted to claim the treasure.

Dawnboy Blood-son of his space-roving father, the young warrior had no fear of the unknown; but he harbored many uneasy doubts about Shyanne. That mischievous Vampirian lass was always getting in the way and-worse- getting him into trouble.

Together With help- and an occasional warning- from Lulu, their biocomputer, Ranger and Dawnboy traveled through the darkest reaches of space and into pirate-infested galaxies hoping to claim the golden treasure before anyone could beat them to it!

from the inside page: GHOST IN SPACE The comet's glowing tail was like a sequined curtain waiting for them to part its folds and enter the secret world of Wonderwhat. The feeling of suspended reality slow- ly left Dawnboy. His gloved fingers checked the tools on his belt as he prepared to board the Jealousy.

Then the impossible happened....

"So ye thought ye'd steal me treasure, eh?" A gravel-voiced roar echoed in Dawnboy's ears. "I'll blast ye all to the flaming pit o' cosmic hell first!"

Dawnboy looked up and gave a startled cry. Before him was the figure of a burly, black-bearded man...a man with a blaster gripped in each hand. A man who had somehow retured from the dead to protect his treasure-laden ship!
