Jayde[edit]
Jayde is an alternative-pop singer/songwriter from Peterborough, Ontario. Known for her melancholic lyrics, Jayde channels intimate experiences to create songs about heartbreak and internal struggle.
Background[edit]
Born 1999 in Cobourg, Ontario, Jayde grew up with an early attachment to music and started teaching herself to play piano and guitar around the age of nine.
Jayde began songwriting at the age of twelve, and has been working to find her place in the music industry ever since. At thirteen years old she played a backyard party, complete with a stage, and one of the attendees knew Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson, and his business partner, songwriter Casey Marshall. Immediately they started a songwriting development deal.
Throughout her high school years Jayde won various local singing competitions in Peterborough, including Snow fest Idol and Kawartha Idol. When she was 16 she recorded her first EP with producer Rob Wells at Sony ATV Music Publishing, but only released one song off it, as the young songwriter felt that she was still finding her sound.
At 17 Jayde was a semi-finalist in the Canadian Songwriting Competition, a finalist in the national Unsigned Only competition, and a top ten in Ontario’s The Shot vocal competition. CBC included her in its Searchlight 10 Young Artists you need to hear, and worked with the musical directors of Family Channel’s The Next Step to record a soundtrack for the show.
After graduating high-school, Jayde decided to forgo beginning a post-secondary program and decided work a day job to pay for her development in the music industry[1].
Discography and Music Career[edit]
In 2018, Jayde released her first 4 official singles, Lines, Give Me a Minute, Perfect Strangers[2], and Ultraviolence[3], peaking the interest of several A -List Musicians such as Finneas, Bishop Briggs, and Jessie Reyez[4].
After a 1 year hiatus in 2019, returned in 2020 with two hard-hitting singles, Electricity[5] and Sad af[6], with a music video accompanying the ballad Electricity[7]. These singles[8] landed the young artist on editorial playlists such as New Music Friday, Indie Pop Chillout, New Music Now, Fresh Vibes, and Just Vibing, as well as several Amazon music playlists.
As well in 2019 Jayde landed a spot on the Canadian television show, The Launch. Jayde was the runner up of her episode, where she was mentored by Canadian icon Jann Arden, producer Shaun Frank, and song-writer Scott Borchetta. As well, in summer 2019 Jayde opened for Canadian musician Tyler Shaw at the Peterborough Music Fest[9].
In March of 2021 Jayde has released another single, titled “f this[10],” with an accompanying music video directed by Toronto’s Kevin Lien[11].
Jayde prepares to release of her first EP project, sad songs about sad things, in April[12].
