Build-A-Bed 2012 new article content ...

Build-A-Bed was held in Berea KY 2012. It was a community service event that local businesses and groups donated all the supplies to build a twin size bed. They also donated items to help a child establish a bedtime routine. Along with lumber, screws, tools and man power, other items donated were mattress, bed sheets, bedding, books, pajamas, toothbrushes, stuffed animals and even some quilts. Volunteers signed up for a two hour slot to assemble and sand twin size beds. Once the bed was completed, Toyota sent two trucks along with drivers to help deliver the free twin bed to a minor under the age of 18.

Now this even has sparked other communities to continue this community event. Some are churches that host the event while other AmeriCorps volunteers are continuing this tradition. Our overall concern was to make sure every child had a comfortable place to sleep every night.
