From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Worcestershire Literary Festival is an inaugural arts festival aiming to mount an unprecedented number of different literary events in the county of Worcestershire in the West Midlands, England. Whilst the festival itself is scheduled for the 17th to the 27th of June 2011, the organisation also schedules several programmes of popular events - such as Parole Parlate and Learn:Eat:Perform, hosted in association with affiliated arts organisations or local companies around the county (for instance with Apples and Snakes, Little Venice and Worcester Arts Workshop in the aforementioned) - frequent fixtures foreshadowing the official launch of the festival main in 2011. The motif for this maiden festival is to uphold Pride in the Midlands, popularising the rich literary history of the region and providing a platform for contemporary writers and residents to take inspiration from and contribute to this cultural heritage. As an independent umbrella organisation inviting involvement from other like-minded literary devotees, it aims to expose the diverse currents of artistic activity in the area, and promoting a pride in the talent of the writers of Worcestershire. Alongside this ethos of community contribution and celebration, the festival is attracting a number of popular, high-profile professionals - poets, authors, writers and a few wild-cards - to remind the world why Worcestershire features so prominently on the literary landscape.
