From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Damon Runyon Theater is an American anthology radio series that was syndicated in 1949-1950.[1]

Format[edit]

As an anthology, Damon Runyon Theater featured dramatizations based on Damon Runyon's stories about New York underworld characters. The character Broadway ("a hood with a heart of gold") narrated each episode.[1] Author Tim DeForest considered each of the 52 episodes "a wonderfully faithful dramatization of one of Runyon's stories."[2]

Personnel[edit]

John Brown played Broadway, the only character that was heard regularly on the program. Actors who were often heard in episodes of the show included William Conrad, Sheldon Leonard, Frank Lovejoy, Luis Van Rooten, Herb Vigran, Peggy Webber,[1] Gerald Mohr, Alan Reed, Ed Begley, and Parley Baer.[2]

Russell Hughes wrote for the program.[2]
