From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

THE PHILIPPINE PORTUGUESE DESCENDANTS are those who are descended from the Portuguese who came to Philippines in 1521 with Ferdinand Magellan and subsequently onwards. The Philippine Portuguese Descendants are now almost lost as many either have immigrated to other different regions in Asia or have their ancestral assimilation into the predominantly larger Spanish and Malay Filipino community over the past decades through intermarriage. Their ancestral assimilation has diluted the linkage to their Portuguese ancestry and most have totally adopted the Filipino culture without a trace of their inheritance. However, there are Philippine Portuguese families who remain proud of their ancestry and who have traced their roots to the Portuguese Seafarers.
