I'm a mathematician (BA 1970 from Boston College, PhD 1979 from UC San Diego) who has worked as a mission designer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1979 (though the usual disclaimer applies: everything I write in the Wikipedia website is my own opinion only and does not imply any endorsement by JPL). My particular expertise is trajectory design.
