Ceylon Gourd is the name of the vegetable used in the project on regional vitalization by the Suzuka City in the Mie Prefecture, Japan (since 2011). The project name is "Ceylon Gourd Project" (Director General,Prof.K.K.U.Ananda Kumara), coordinated by a Sri Lankan academic and the Deputy President of the Suzuka International University. This project started in 2011 at the Suzuka International University, as a collaborative project with the Suzuka Chamber of Commerce through its mechanism for Consortium for Industry-University-Government Interaction. Soon after the project started, it bace a wide attention of the people throughout Japan and appeared very often in the newspapers and television programs. In addition, Ceylon Gourd was used as study materials throughout Japan due to the issuing of Wall Paper Series by the World Press Inc., a publishing company of academic materials for schools in Japan. The Wall Paper Series published by the World Press Inc. include study materials with the following titles: No 1: “Ceylon Gourd: The Latest New Vegetable for Japan” No 2: How to Plant the New Vegetable “Ceylon Gourd” No 3: Using Ceylon Gourd for the Green Curtain No 4: How to cook Ceylon Gourd: No 5: Interesting Recipes from Ceylon Gourd No 6: Cultivation of Ceylon Gourd is Enjoyable: Shape is Interesting and Artistic!
