The Harrison family is a fictional in the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street. The first Harrisons on the show were Jenny Harrison and her son Nick. Nick was introduced in the second episode on 26 May 1992 and stayed with the show for 13 years. The family grew later on with the arrivals of son Lucas and daughter Tina-Anne.

Storylines[edit]

Jenny Harrison was introduced as hard working personal assistant to CEO Michael McKenna and single mother to teenager Nick. Nick fell out with best friend, Stuart Neilson (Martin Henderson) when their mutual friend Miles Lucas (Hamish MacFarlane) committed suicide andthe two struggled to with hold their emotions. Nick started to date punk girl, Serena Hughes (Willa O'Neill) to anger his mother Jenny (Maggie Harper). Howeverthe plan backfired when Serena and Jenny got on famously and Nick fell for her.However the two eventually broke up and Nick developed unrequited love for Rachel McKenna (Angela Bloomfield). Nick grew jealous when Rachel got together with Stuart and got in a serious accident when he stole Stuart's motorbike in a fit of rage.

Jenny's ex-husband Barry returned to town late in 1992 and Jenny reconciled with him. However viewers quickly discovered why Jenny had left Barry in the first place when Barry beat Jenny up. Jenny made the decision to kick him out and Jenny told Nick that the real reason why she and Barry had divorced was because Barry had regularly beat her when they were married.

In 1993 Jenny developed a crush on Michael and made several attempts to date him but this was thwarted when Michael got back together with his ex wife Alex. Jenny still voted for Michael however when Bruce Warner attempted a take over of the hospital. Jenny started to get on with Steve's father Declan but he was more attracted to Carrie and ended up marrying her. Jenny did soon get together with Chris' younger brother, Guy. However Guy was already in a steady relationship with Meredith and this scandal shocked the hospital and turned many against the usually popular Jenny. Meredith forgave Jenny however and invited her to her leaving party. Towards the end of the year, Nick and Jenny's lives were rocked with a bombshell by a boy named Adam Brady, who claimed he was Jenny's real son! Adam appeared and claimed that he and Nick were born on the same day in 1976 at the same hospital and that they were mixed up as babies.

Jenny accepted this but preferred Nick in her life. Nick adopted the persona of Slash, a leather wearing rebel. Jenny was devastated when he ran away from home and hid in the Toroa. Nick soon returns home andforgives his mother. The two decide to embrace Adam into their lives but are shocked when he turns out to be delusional and not Jenny's son at all. Nick is pleased to have his mother back. Johnny moved in with Jenny after falling out with Ellen and they shared a kiss. He left but returned later in the year and he and Jenny began a relationship. At the end of 1994, Jenny was shocked to learn she was pregnant.

Nick became prefect at his school and in 1994 developed a crush on new girl, Waverley Wilson (Claire Chitham) after he broke up with Olivia. Waverley used Nick for sex but the two eventually started to legitimately develop feelings. In 1995 Waverley had a pregnancy scare which saw Nick nervously propose. He married Rachel in a protest on student loans which upset Waverley to the point where she fled the country. Nick dated Ramona (Ashleigh Seagar) but they broke up when Nick clumsily misplaced her baby. Nick started a awkward fling with Rachel when she was struck by lightning which soon ended when Rachel recovered. Nick dated a women named Vanessa but when Waverley returned to town, the two finally reconciled. Nick forgave Waverley when she cheated on him in 1999 but couldn't accept her when she cut his hair without consent. The two broke up. In 2000 Nick saved good friend Minnie Crozier (Katrina Devine) from entering prostitution and the two entered a relationship however it ended when Nick slapped her in a fit of rage. Nick started to date Angela Weaver (Katherine Hubbard) and she fell pregnant. However Angela was revealed to be terminally ill but decided to go through with the pregnancy. They married in an unofficial ceremony and Angela gave birth to a son they named Lucas (Christopher Preece) before Angela died. Nick struggled to accept Lucas but with the help of Rangi (Blair Strang) and Donna (Stephanie Tauevihi), Nick finally felt love for his son. Nick soon realised he still loved Waverley but she felt obliged to Adam (Leighton Cardno) and Nick departed to London with Lucas. When he returned months later, he and Waverley finally reconciled. The two got engaged but on the eve of the wedding Waverley was kidnapped by his ex fiance -Fergus (Paul Ellis). The two finally did wed in late 2002 but the legitimy of the marriage was put into question when Nick forged the certificate after he misplaced the original. Nick helped Waverley through cancer and she fell pregnant. However Waverley had a miscarriage but soon fell pregnant again. Nick won the local bar in a poker match but was shocked to discover the previous owner - Geoff Greenlaw's (Andrew Laing) dead body in the freezer. In 2004 Waverley gave birth to a daughter that she and Nick named Tina-Anne (Libby Reber). In 2005 Nick grew paranoid when a home invader struck the homes of Ferndale, the family moved to Taranaki to ensure their safety.
