Ecometrics

Ecometrics[edit]

The use of mathematics and statistics in the fields of the social sciences to define environmental issues, broadly defined, seek solutions, to those problems. The development of mathematical models is central to the discipline, major advances having been made in model formulation, data gathering, estimation, hypothesis testing and computing. The application of ecometric tools to economic, political, social and environmental problems is now a sophisticated business, where private consultation offices operate to provide information to developing industries and other operations where environmental impacts need to be measured accurately.
