Beatmania IIDX 20: Tricoro (stylized as beatmaniaIIDX 20: tricoro) is the 20th installment of BEMANI's Beatmania IIDX series. The first news of the location test itself was mentioned by a twitt, stating that the new installment's location test will be held on April 18th until April 24th in Akihabara. Fortunately the location test was held from April 18th to April 24th at Tokyo Leisure Land #2 in Akihabara,[1] and the KONAMI webpage about the location test was up. The second location test, starting from April 20th, was held at Osaka and ended at the same time as the first location test ended.[1] The game was released on September 19th, 2012 (September 25th, 2012 for the upgrade kits)

Gameplay[edit]

For more information about the gameplay of IIDX in general, please refer to Beatmania IIDX#Gameplay.

Tricoro still retains the core gameplay of Beatmania IIDX, with also retaining Backspin Scratches and Charge Notes from Beatmania IIDX 17: Sirius. DJ VIP Passes, Lincle Avatar, FREE PLUS and STEP UP mode, Help Display and Music Preview (which can still be turned off by options) also returns from Beatmania IIDX 19: Lincle as well.

New Features and Changes[edit]

Option Menu and Gameplay[edit]

While the song wheel is similar to Lincle which is vertical, Options are now reorganized into four categories.[2] Options available on BEGINNER MODE are narrowed down into four assisting options, such as EASY and 5KEYS. Further options menu can be navigated by pressing the VEFX and Effect buttons (Effect Button allow players to adjust in-game judge timing and the judging location), where all the White and Black buttons were now used to select options. [2] HI-SPEED, Hidden, Sudden and Hid+Sud and Sudden+ Type B option is missing from Options selection; but HI-SPEED will only be available in-game and is expanded from 0.5 to 10.0, with the increments of .01 when SUDDEN+ option is disabled and .25 when SUDDEN+ option is enabled.[2] Players are able to swap between the placement of Score Graph with the movie viewer.[2]

Result Screen[edit]

The result pictures for getting the DJ Level Grade (which was previously absent in Lincle) has been returned (replacing the pictures from Daninintei Mode as well). Difficulty with level selected is also shown. The total notes information was not shown this time. Players are also able to see grades obtained in a song in the same arcade, much like Dance Dance Revolution X3.[2]

Expert Mode[edit]

For the first time in the IIDX series, Expert Mode, the mode where players player plays a set of 5 predetermined songs without stopping, is not available in this version. Internet Ranking for the Daninintei (Class) mode is also absent as well.[2]

Tran Medals[edit]

Tran Medals (medals with Tran logos) can be earned (either Gold, Silver or Bronze) through gameplay. (such as acheiving Daninintei (Class) rating in Daninintei mode, clearing songs etc.) The medals can be used to unlock revivals. Dellar Points can also be earned through earning medals as well.[2]

Rival Reverse[edit]

Another new feature is "Rival Reverse", which players can re-challenge the opponents through played songs in a folder. Depending on the result it can only be challenged once.[3]

Daily Challenge Songs[edit]

A new feature where 2 to 3 songs will be selected for play in any game mode to get Tran Medals and Dellar Points. Given Song list will refresh every day, and a new theme will be given every Wednesdays of the week. The Daily Challenge Song list is similar to the recent versions of Jubeat and Reflec Beat.

Limit Burst[edit]

The extra stage is now named "Limit Burst", which now has new criteria in getting the song. This time players must play a set of given songs without failing (even when DJ VIP PASS is used) while fulfilling the Extra Stage Criteria in order to get the Limit Burst song. The criterias were made easier to unlock from every Wednesdays of the week (based on ability to unlock Normal and Hyper Charts and getting requirements of the Groove Gauge). There are five songs in the Limit Burst so far in which players need to unlock from fulfilling the criterias:

  • Available on October 3, 2012, clearing a set of One More Extra Stage songs from older releases will unlock Sol Cosine Job 2. [4]
  • Available on October 17, 2012, clearing a set of Dance Dance Revolution transplants will unlock New Decade IIDX Edition. [5][note 1]
  • Available on October 31, 2012, clearing a set of Pop'n Music transplants will unlock neu. [6]
  • Available on November 21, 2012, clearing a set of Reflec Beat transplants (which includes Lincle Link Songs) will unlock Hollywood Galaxy. [7]
  • Available on December 12, 2012, clearing a set of Jubeat transplants will unlock JOMANDA. [8]

Legend Cross (tricoro RED)[edit]

The first unlocking feature debuted on October 10, 2012 was Legend Cross (or stylized as Legend Cross (tricoro RED), which Red is the first color of the logo of Tricoro), which is similar to "Lincle Kingdom" fashion from the previous version[9]. In the first event, players need to fulfill tasks inside the game (such as adjusting Pacemaker, make the time limit to a specified time, get DJ Points etc.) to get the Astran Lights marked by older releases. Earning them will unlock new songs (mostly from console releases). By fulfilling certain requirements, boss songs may be played in extra stage at the 'Legend Cross' folder where players can earn Boss Crystals to play the songs. Getting them will unlock songs available for play in the next playthrough (including Thor's Hammer and Plan 8, where players must press the given buttons in order to play the songs.)
The RED event was ended on December 5, 2012 with a "To be Continued" cliffhanger, and all songs (depending if the song have been played once) can now be unlocked by Dellar Points. (Except Time To Empress and mnemoniq, which was unlocked automatically for regular play)

Ω-Attack (tricoro BLUE)[edit]

The second event was Ω-Attack ((or stylized as Ω-Attack (tricoro BLUE), Blue was the third color of the Tricoro logo) and was started on December 12, 2012. This time the unlocking system was based on lighting adjacent hexagon cells blue (or called virus cleaning) to unlock songs at the end of every playthrough (similar to Resort Anthem's unlocking system). Player must use the weapon code array for lighting (depending on the level, sector, lighting of hexagons, weapon unlocks and the amount of CP (Code Points) accumulated for the players to spend). Lighting the hexagons with music logo with a certain number of hits (indicated by hexagons with a color shading Blue, Yellow and Red and a sector code) would unlock songs available in the next playthrough. Lighting the hexagons onto the key programs in a given sector (indicated by different Greek alphabets) and fulfilling conditions will allow players to access boss songs and progress further in Sector-B. [10]

Music[edit]

This is a subject to change.
As of December 12, 2012, 58 new songs will carry with 694 songs from previous releases, giving a total of 752 songs to play in the game. 21 songs are removed in this version as well.

  1. ^ Playing 3 Dance Dance Revolution Transplants which are also the One More Extra Stage songs (革命 (Kakumei), Fascination MAXX and PARANOiA ~Hades~) will unlock Sol Cosine Job 2 instead of New Decade IIDX Edition.
