1st Infantry March 31, 1791 as the 2nd Infantry. In 1815 it was consolidated with several other regiments to become the 1st. Colonel Carlos A. Waite 1st and 2nd Battalions are still active.
2nd Infantry April 12, 1808 as the 6th Infantry. In 1815 it was consolidated with four other regiments to become the 2nd. Colonel Dixon S. Miles 1st and 2nd Battalions are still active.
3rd Infantry June 3, 1784 as the 1st Infantry. In 1815 it was consolidated with four other regiments to become the 3rd. Colonel Sherman Patrick? 1st, 2nd, and 4th Battalions are still active.
4th Infantry January 11, 1812 as the 14th Infantry. In 1815 it was consolidated with four other regiments to become the 4th. Colonel Sherman Patrick? 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions are still active.

11th Infantry 1798-1800 (disbanded), 1812-1815 (consolidated into 6th Infantry), 1847-1848 (disbanded), and May 14, 1861. Colonel Erasmus D. Keyes In 1866, the 2nd Battalion became the 20th Infantry, and the 3rd Battalion became the 29th Infantry. The 1st Battalion was dispersed in 1869, but elements of the 20th and 29th Infantry were consolidated into a fifth 11th Infantry.
