Virginia and Truckee Railroad Depot - Gold Hill
The Gold Hill Depot of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad was a passenger and freight depot in the town of Gold Hill, Nevada. The building has stood continuously since 1869.

The Gold Hill Depot was built on one of the few flat spots in the entire town of Gold Hill. The track makes a sharp turn at the Depot, and begins its final climb into Virginia City. The old track used a tunnel on the curve after the depot, and you can still see the tunnel today, but the modern rails go around the tunnel.
The Crown Point Trestle was located just south of the depot on the tracks, which crossed the Crown Point Ravine. Nowadays there is an open pit mine, and there is a retaining wall built for the new V&T to run over.
On the final excursion run from Reno to Virginia City and back in 1938, the cars and passengers were left at the depot, and anyone who wanted to go into Virginia City had to take an automobile, as there were concerns over the tunnels in between Gold Hill and Virginia City.
Present[edit]
While it is still standing, it is not used as an actual depot, instead it has period furniture in it, and is somewhat of a museum. The yard next to the depot is still actively used, and Locomotive #8 is stored there on an auxiliary track. There are extra ties and rails along the auxiliary tracks.
