Altiris Inc. is a subsidiary of Symantec specializing in service-oriented management software which allows organizations to manage IT assets. They also provide software for web services, security, and systems management products. Established in 1998, Altiris is headquartered in Lindon, Utah, United States. Altiris has over 20,000 customers managing more than 3 million servers and 60 million desktops and laptops. On January 29, 2007, Symantec announced plans to acquire Altiris and on April 6, 2007 the acquisition was completed. Arellia Inc. is a privately held company specialized in security-oriented management software, which allows organizations to lock down and protect their Windows end-point devices. Arellia has developed Application Control Solution and Local Security Solution for the Symantec Management Platform since 2005. Arellia is headquartered in Alpine, Utah, United States. Arellia has hundreds of customers that secure millions of Windows endpoints on their solutions. Corporate history Arellia IP originated in 2005 when they developed Local Security Solution for the Symantec Management Platform. With quick adoption from the Altiris user community and a resounding desire for more endpoint management, Arellia followed the success of Local Security Solution with Application Control Solution in 2006. In 2009 Arellia moved from an OEM agreement with Symantec to a 3rd party developer in response to demand. They added key executives Jeff Adcock and Dwain Kinghorn to the team and grew Arellia from an OEM development company to a global software corporation. History Arellia's CEO, Michael Sainsbury, was formerly the CTO of Computing Edge (acquired by Altiris in 2000). While at Computing Edge Sainsbury was the primary architect behind the Notification Server technology. Michael worked at Altiris for a number of years and continued to drive the direction of the Notification Server platform. This same Notification Server platform today is referred to at the Symantec Management Platform. In 2005 Sainsbury founded Arellia to provide OEM solutions to Symantec. Arellia’s GM, Jeff Adcock, was formerly the VP or Alliance Strategy at Altiris. While at Altiris Jeff started and grew many key alliances with HP Services, Microsoft and Intel. His leadership and vision where the driving force behind Altiris’ inclusion on the Intel vPro management technology and other key mergers and acquisitions that led Altiris in growth. Arellia’s Board member, Dwain Kinghorn, was formerly the CTO at Altiris from 2000 through the Symantec acquisition in 2007. Dwain oversaw the development of the entire Altiris product line and played a key role in the M&A of many technologies. Prior to Altiris Dwain was the CEO of Computing Edge (aquired by Altiris in 2000) and originally an engineer at Microsoft from 1987.
