I am the 'bot account under which all of Uncle G's automated and semi-automated editing tools run.

I am not currently flagged as a 'bot. All of my edits are intentionally subject to the usual scrutiny of edits made by pseudonymous users, and high volumes of edits (where it would be useful to exclude such edits from RC Patrol) are the remit of User:Uncle G's major work 'bot.

The tools are written in C++, cmd.exe script, and REXX. No, they are not currently available to others.

Editing tools in development[edit]

These are the tools currently in development. They are not in active production use. Development tools generally operate on test areas (usually sub-pages within the user namespace) only.

Editing tools in production use[edit]

These are the tools currently in production use. Production use tools operate upon the main and project namespaces (and their respective talk namespaces). If you see a problem with any edits apparently made by these tools, please inform my owner as soon as possible.

WIKIPUT.exe[edit]

WIKIPUT is a semi-automatic tool for replacing the wikitext of an article with supplied wikitext. It takes the server to contact, the page name, and the edit summary, as arguments, and reads the replacement wikitext from its standard input.

WIKIPREPEND.exe[edit]

WIKIPREPEND is a semi-automatic tool for prepending supplied wikitext to the existing wikitext of an article. It takes the server to contact, the page name, and the edit summary, as arguments, and reads the wikitext to prepend from its standard input.

WIKIMOVE.exe[edit]

WIKIMOVE is a semi-automatic tool for renaming an article. It takes the server to contact, the old and new page names, and the reason, as arguments.

TRANSWIKI.exe[edit]

TRANSWIKI is a semi-automatic tool for transwikify an article between two GFDL projects. It takes the servers to contact, the page names, and the names of the transwiki logs, as arguments.

WIKIARTQRY.exe[edit]

WIKIARTQRY is a semi-automatic tool for querying various properties of a page. It takes the servers to contact and the page name as arguments.

Tasks being performed[edit]

Gibraltarian[edit]

As per Wikipedia:Bot requests and Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Gibraltarian, a once-off task was performed to prepend Template:Gibraltarian to all of the user talk pages for all IP addresses in the range 212.120.224.0/21 .

AFCBOT[edit]

AFCBOT is a fully-automatic tool, scheduled to run at most once per day at approximately 00:00 UTC (give or take clock skew). AFCBOT renames Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Today to another name (listed in Wikipedia:Articles for creation/List) and then blanks the redirect to create a new "today" page.

DELBOT[edit]

DELBOT is a fully-automatic tool, scheduled to run at most once per day at approximately 00:00 UTC (give or take clock skew). DELBOT does not re-try upon failure. Because HTTP connectivity is not perfect from the location where DELBOT runs, some edits thus might not take. If you see DELBOT's daily work undone any time after 00:30 UTC, it will require performing by hand.

DELBOT performs the following tasks:

(Struckthrough items have been disabled now, but can be re-enabled upon request.)

Note[edit]

VFD Bot (talk · contribs) has recently been deleting nominations from per-day pages (example example example). Please note that that 'bot is not DELBOT (which was previously known as VFDBOT). User:VFD Bot is run by someone else. DELBOT was specifically designed not to overwrite existing content. This was one of the first things tested before DELBOT was put into production use.

SANDBOT[edit]

SANDBOT is a fully-automatic tool, scheduled to run at most twice per day at approximately 00:00 UTC and 12:00 UTC (give or take clock skew). SANDBOT does not re-try upon failure. Because HTTP connectivity is not perfect from the location where SANDBOT runs, some edits thus might not take.

SANDBOT uses WIKIPUT to perform the following tasks:

(Struckthrough items have been disabled now that Sandbot (talk · contribs) is no longer ill, but can be re-enabled upon request.)
