There are various ways to drink a boilermaker special:

Generally speaking, the Boilermaker Special is merely a layered shot of Johnny Walker Black Label on top of Goldschläger within a shot glass.

• Traditionally, the liquor is drunk in a single gulp.

History

The Boilermaker Special was created as an alternative to the boilermaker at the Boiler Up! blue ribbon committee meeting at Riverside Sports Bar and Music Center on October 29, 2009. This drink was approved by all members in attendance.

Variations

• Goldschläger can be substituted with José Cuervo Especial ("José Cuervo Gold").

• A Boilermaker Extra Special is made by layering Jägermeister on top of the Johnny Walker/Goldschläger combination.
