William Doge Hutchinson was a British Chemist and inheritor of Hutchinson (publisher), founded in London in 1887 by his father, Sir George Hutchinson.

Biography[edit]

On June 2, 1909 he married Else Thieme daughter of Carl von Thieme in Munich, so he became brother-in-law of Sophie Thieme (1877-1971), the mother of York Alexander von Wendland [de].^[3]
During the first world war he was interned at Gut Höhenried [de].

Villa Hutchinson[edit]

In 1914 he had bought land at an der Hochleite in Untergiesing-Harlaching.
In June 1925 the Arquitects Schmitkes & Buddens appied for a building permit for a Villa Harthauser Straße 48.
To a house in the neighbourhood, the Landhaus J. F. Lehmann, Holzkirchner Straße 2 Rudolf Hess had abducted the bavarian government Kabinett Knilling [de]) during the Beer Hall Putsch.
Hess became celmate of Adolf Hitler and Coautor of Mein Kampf.
In the nineteen-thirties, the Eher Verlag sold the copyright of the British and Commonwealth editions of Mein Kampf, through the Curtis Brown literary agency, to William Hutchinson, a major British publisher. In 1939, Hutchinson commissioned the Jewish emigré Ralph Mannheim to produce a translation – a choice that was not well received in Munich – and the first full British edition appeared in March of 1939, receiving scathing reviews. ^[4]
To a Dinner on New Year's Eve, 1935 Mrs. Hutchinson, born Thieme, had invited to her house in Harlaching five guests, including Wilhelm Furtwängler and Klaus Dohm, confidant of Hermann Josef Abs.^[5]
On December 4, 1935 Hess aquired the house.
After the 10 May 1941 Ilse Hess and her son Wolf Rüdiger Hess lived their.
During the second world war the house was airraided.
From 12 of April 1946 till 1957 the site belonged to the dispensary Munich military community, and was used as direccion of Revue (Illustrierte) [de], that pulished a vita of Hitler by Thomas Orr.^[6]

Ehe er weiterreden konnte, richtete sich Furtwängler drohend auf, schlug mit dem Löffel wütend auf seinen Teller, so daß die Suppe nach allen Seiten spritzte, und schrie den erschrockenen Jüngling an: »Schweigen Sie auf der Stelle, kein Wort mehr über diesen Blödsinn, nehmen Sie zur Kenntnis, ich bin Christ und weiß warum.« Das Abendessen verlief nach diesem Ausbruch unter eisigem Schweigen.
