Shah Mahmoud Hanifi[edit]

Hi, I thought rather than clutter up the discussion page I'd come direct to your talk page. Please don't misunderstand my position, I have no idea who Shah Mahmoud Hanifi is, and have no agenda beyond the wish to see Wikipedia improved. Please also understand that no-one is suggesting that the article is "immediately deleted" - in fact you have already taken part in the discussion process which will take at least 5 days and in which anyone is allowed to register their opinion. After that an administrator will weigh the consensus of opinions and decide what action, if any, to take. FYI I am not an admin so my voice has no more weight in this than yours or anyone else's. Also note that I did not say the article was "bunk", I just said that it didn't assert the notability of the subject. Wikipedia has very clear policies on what constitutes notability and how to write an article to to show that.

As I said, my purpose in joining this discussion is to improve Wikipedia. There is nothing I would like more than to see this article improved and to keep it in Wikipedia. If notability can be shown through verifiable sources, then I will switch my vote to Keep. The work that has gone into adding sources to the article has gone a long way towards that goal and I am happy to reconsider it at any time.

One final note. I don't doubt that your assessment of Prof. Hanifi's notability is correct. However it does need to be evidenced, not just asserted. His Gutenberg award, for example, is an excellent source for his notability. More evidence from external source like this will sway not just my decision, but more importantly the decisions of other editors.

I hope this is helpful, Gwernol 23:05, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
