The South Asian Performing Arts Foundation is a nonprofit based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that produces live performances and other showcases of South Asian art, heritage, and culture. Dr. Mohan Kelkar currently serves as president of the organization. Kelkar also serves as the Department Chairperson of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa. [1]

The organization was founded in 2006, and has since hosted performances in Tulsa from dozens of notable Indian artists, with a few examples being Nitin Mukesh, The Indian Ocean Band, and Amjad Ali Khan.

In 2021, the organization expanded its base into Oklahoma City.

Origin[edit]

The organization's official slogan is "promoting art and creating awareness." On the organization's website, it's mission is explicitly stated as "promoting and preserving the traditional classic and folk arts of the India while enhancing the awareness and understanding of South Asian culture in Oklahoma."[2] SAPAF produces performances from a wide variety of genres of South Asian Art, including Carnatic Music, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bollywood music, Hindustani classical music, Theatre of India, and more.
