Staff Sergeant Moon was an American electronic band, founded in 2004 by former college friends Floyd Morris, Tim Masterson, James Ricardo, and Joe Harata. In their earlier releases, the band was noted for its centre-left political views and frequent criticism of George W. Bush and 21st century society, while maintaining an electronic sound in their music. Following Joe Harata's suicide on August 8, 2008, Staff Sergeant Moon shifted away from political and societal commentary and decided to focus more on the sound of the music, with a notable exception being the album Decade of the Masses, released on May 29, 2010.

After over 25 years of releases focused on sound and influence, Staff Sergeant Moon announced on September 21, 2030, that the group had "run its course" and would disband soon after the release of its next album, Past Lives, a project that was previously unknown. The album was released the next day, but the disbandment of Staff Sergeant Moon was not finalized until January 2031.
