Rocky Mountain Airways Flight 217 was a scheduled passenger flight from Steamboat Springs to Denver, Colorado. On the evening of 4 December 1978, the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter operating the flight crashed on a snow-covered mountain slope while attempting to return to Steamboat Springs; the aircraft was destroyed, and two of the 22 occupants died of injuries sustained in the crash.[1]
