Jean-Cassien Billier (born in 1964) is a lecturer in political philosophy and moral philosophy at Paris-Sorbonne University, where he previously taught as an Associate Professor (PRAG).

Biography[edit]

He has also been teaching at Sciences Po Paris since 2009. He is also a professor in the economic and commercial preparatory class at the Lycée privé Sainte-Geneviève in Versailles. Former student of the literary preparatory classes of the Lycée Louis-Le-Grand, he studied philosophy at the University of Paris I and then at the European University Institute in Florence , before preparing a doctoral thesis at the University of Paris Sorbonne - Paris IV under the direction of Alain Renaut  : "Liberalism and moral rationality", which he supported in 2006. He is a member of the editorial board of the journals Raison publique and Les cahiers de la justice (journal of the École nationale de la magistrature, an institution with which he regularly collaborates). He co-directs the College of Philosophy with Pierre-Henri Tavoillot and Eric Deschavannes. He has been teaching since the start of the 2010 academic year at the Institute of Judicial Studies of the University of Paris II for the preparation of the entrance exam to the National School of Magistrates. His specialty is moral philosophy: normative ethics, meta-ethics, applied ethics.
