RNN (Arabic: شبكة رصد الاخبارية): Rassd News Network - a Facebook-based news source was launched on January 25, 2011 - coinciding with the revolution in Egypt. Although the identities of the RNN creators are unknown, some speculate that they are young Egyptians associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. RNN exists in both English and Arabic language versions. [1] Together they have approximately 1 million Facebook fans and more than 137,000 followers on Twitter. RNN is the most followed online brand in the Middle East[1]. Three days after the site was launched, MSNBC followed RNN's Facebook feed in their coverage of the Egyptian protests. [2] Stories originate from external media outlets or RNN's own network of volunteer reporters[3] .

RNN Reported[edit]

On February 5, 2011 Louisville's NBC-affiliate first cited RNN out of Cairo that President Hosni Mubarak had stepped down as head of Egypt's ruling party. [2]
