Matt's Music is a Christian rock and alternative radio show that airs new episodes Friday at 10 PM ET. The show's home station is CHJX-FM, the time slot is Fridays at 9 PM ET.[1] The show launched in 2018 and is hosted by Matt Leyland.[2][3]

History[edit]

Matt's Music first aired in December of 2017[4] as a one time Christmas rock special[5] at 8 PM. After the Christmas special Matt's Music didn't release an episode for five months officially launching on May 28, 2018[4].[6]

The show runs weekly[2], but has at times been sporadic in airing new episodes. The show's creator has attributed this to various reasons such as school and sickness.[4]

Matt's Music has done numerous interviews in its 5 years on air, some of his more notable guests are as follows.

Jason Dunn[3][7][8][edit]

Jason Dunn, musician and former lead singer of Hawk Nelson was the first guest after the official launch of Matt's Music in May of 2018[9]. They talked extensively of his past with new revelations about his bandmates departures as well as about his latest project at the time Aid & Effect.

Nate Parrish[5][3][8][edit]

Nate Parrish formerly of Worth Dying For and currently lead guitar for Kutless went on to discuss his self-released punk rock album. The interview went in depth into his background and musical history.

Zach Havens[5][8][edit]

Zach Havens was the first guest on Matt's Music providing a clip about his song to the show. He also appeared in a later episode to talk at length about what he was up to musically as well as how his teaching business and website Miistro was doing.

Other[8][edit]

Other guests among others include Orion Walsh, Dave Owens[10] and Joe McElroy[5] who was the first guest to participate in a giveaway[11].

Special Shows[edit]

Matt's Music has done a number of special shows throughout the 5 years it has been running. These special shows typically revolve around a theme, the most common specials are quiet shows where heavier rock songs are avoided. Matt's Music also does yearly Christmas shows and yearly wrap up shows that showcase the best music of the year and what to look forward to in the next within the genre[5].

Specials have also included a focus on a single musician, Matthew Thiessen and Jessy Ribordy[5][12] are the only musicians as of now.

Other special shows have included songs with numbers in the title[13], acoustic songs[14][15] and a show dedicated to songs with the theme of the Prodigal Son. As well as other shows.

Awards[edit]

Matt's Music has been nominated for a number of awards including Best Music Podcast at the Podcast Awards.
