Ardmore Studios is a film studio near Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland which was opened by the Minister for Industry and Commerce Seán Lemass on 12 May 1958. Its success has been very varied with significant financial losses as well as periods of profitability. Studio ownership has been in several different hands, with the Irish government usually retaining a shareholding. Currently 35% is owned by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish state economic development agency, U2 manager Paul McGuinness and their former accountant Ossie Kilkenny own the rest of the organisation.^[1]

History[edit]

The studios were started with the idea of promoting an indigenous film industry.^[2] Three factors came together to became the catalyst for starting the studios;
