Explain how they attempted to shape culture as a disciple of Christ during their lifetime. She gave people hope and she was forgiving to the extent where she responded to the question of a student who asked Bakhita: "What would you do if you were to meet your captors?" Without hesitation, she responded: "If I were to meet those who kidnapped me, and even those who tortured me, I would kneel and kiss their hands. For, if these things had not happened, I would not have been a Christian and religious today. “Be good, love the Lord, pray for those who do not know Him. What a great grace it is to know God!”

Identify two gifts or fruits of the Holy Spirit that are evident in the way this saint shaped culture. Explain the ways they demonstrated them. Piety, Fear of the lord, understanding

What other interesting information did you find about your saint?

Feast Day: 8 February Patronage: Sudan, human-trafficking

Explain your connection to this saint. Why did you pick this saint? How can you relate to this saint and their acts? I feel connected to St. Bakhita because of her understanding, if not because of the suffering and being exiled from my own country I wouldn’t have been the Christian and believer I am today. Also, the fact that she was human trafficked, my cousins were human trafficked two and think she was lucky that she lived not like my cousin who was killed because of a similar cause. Another thing that makes me feel connected to her is that we are from the same country and this warms my heart

How is this saint’s life, patronage, image etc part of Catholic culture? Describe the artwork, symbolism, prayers, songs etc connected with your saint. Artwork and symbolism In the above pictures, the broken chain represents how she survived slavery and how she broke free. The food basket represents her devotion to charity, she was so devoted to helping the poor. In the second picture, she represents the suffering Africans have gone through and it represents where she came from and her background.

St. Josephine Bakhita, you were sold into slavery as a child and endured untold hardship and suffering. Once liberated from your physical enslavement, you found true redemption in your encounter with Christ and his Church. O St. Bakhita, assist all those who are trapped in a state of slavery; Intercede with God on their behalf so that they will be released from their chains of captivity. Those whom man enslaves, let God set free. Provide comfort to survivors of slavery and let them look to you as an example of hope and faith. Help all survivors find healing from their wounds. We ask for your prayers and intercessions for those enslaved among us. Amen

And this is the prayer that is said to St. Bakhita People still suffer in this modern day with slavery, I think this emphasises that as Christians we should stand for people going through such situations and not participate in slavery.
