The swimming bull (former name: Kara Şahin, current name Ferdinand) escaped from the sacrificial animal market established in the Hazar District of İyidere district of Rize,Turkey on the first day of Eid al-Adha 2018, and on the fourth day of the Eid, it was found floating in the sea on the coast of Sürmene district of Trabzon,Turkey, 23 kilometers away. Sacrificial bull found and rescued by Coast Guard.

Escape[edit]

The bull, brought to the sacrificial animal market by his partners, escaped from the rope he was tied to around 10:00 on the first day of the holiday. The bull jumped from the 5 meter high wall and escaped from the stream. The bull, pursued by its owners, went over the wall in the market, fell into the stream, and ran away from the area. The two partners of the bull, who applied to the gendarmerie, went after the bull. While the search efforts were continuing, some eyewitnesses said that they saw the bull in the sea in İyidere district. The owners of the animal started looking for the bull on the coastline between Rize and Trabzon.

On the 4th day of Eid al-Adha, some citizens noticed the bull wet on the shore in Trabzon's Sürmene district, 23 kilometers away from where it disappeared. The sacrificial bull, which the citizens were trying to approach, got scared and headed towards the beach and dived into the sea. The bull swam away from the shore and reached the sea near the fishing boat. Those on the boat were surprised by what they saw and informed the Coast Guard Command and requested their help. Coast Guard teams, which were dispatched to the region upon call, took the bull out of the water after about half an hour of effort, with the help of the fishermen in the area.

The bull, which was pulled to the shore and was observed to be exhausted due to being in the water for a long time, was pulled to the road with the help of a crane after a veterinary check and delivered to its owner. It was stated that the bull remained in the sea for 3 days.

Partners Metin Yalçın and Zekeriya Balık are the owners of the bull. They said that they named the animal 'Black Hawk' after the incident and that the bull would not be slaughtered.

The bull became famous after the images made news.
