Major cosmetic changes

Hi!

Can you elaborate on your rationale for your recent changes to division list templates?

Also, they’re not frequently edited templates. It would be more convenient for other editors who’re viewing the history if you would make changes together (edit count-related benefits notwithstanding…)

Hello, @RadioactiveBoulevardier! Hopefully my edits did not upset you. My reasoning was the following:

1) my edits simplify the templates for the reader

2) minimize useless repetition of words - we don't need to read the word division 50 times in a template exclusive dedicated to divisions only! The same goes for divisions that have the same type, so it seemed sensible to have a "child" section of e.g. the type of division to group those together and remove repetitions.

3) I thought my edits made the templates look cleaner, because it lessened the text presented to the reader, but guards and even improves the ability to find the articles through the template. I removed the endings from numbers like "th", "rd", "nd" because those do not add any information that is not there already with the number and it looks better (in my opinion, obviously).

@Mach61, Reinhard Nelke / preussenweb.de has been already used in other Wikipedia military history articles on en.wiki [1] and especially de.wiki [2] and no one batted an eye. The website's content itself is based on extensive literature [3]. The website and its creator are also mentioned in the reference work "The History Highway: A 21st-century Guide to Internet Resources":

"Developed by Reinhard Nelke, Prussian Web houses a wealth of information on the state of Prussia, which existed as a kingdom from 1701 to 1918 and as a state within Germany from 1918 to 1947, when it was abolished by the Allies after World War II. The historical overview describes the growth of Prussia after 1701 to become the most powerful state in northern Germany and the one that unified a "small" Germany, which excluded Austria, in 1871. Besides the extensive historical overview, the site contains maps of Prussia's growth, a list of its provinces and rulers since 1134, an extensive treatment of its army's history, links to biographies of important Prussians, links to other sites on Prussian history, and a bibliography. This German-language site is a strategic place to start the study of Prussian history on the Web."

The website's content is certainly based on good sources, because it is very accurate and extensive. I do not understand why this perfectly fine website should be rejected. +JMJ+ (talk) 15:20, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but the text of policy is very clear that Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications. Existing use in Wikipedia or vouching in books unrelated to the field don't count. You can either cite other sources, such as the ones you say the website is based on, or provide evidence the author has been published in military jouranals or other reliable sources covering the Prussian military.
