Just a cautionary note

I may be overly paranoid, but I'd think that some may take your editing of the NFCC policy page (even a revision that likely 100% appropriate) to be a violation (I don't think so myself, but....). I'm watching this Random guy too, and clearly not understanding of NFCC so don't worry if he makes an edit to NFCC, me or Hammer or someone else will correct it. --MASEM (t) 21:52, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Yeah, in fact your (Δ) revert beat me to the punch; I edit conflict trying to revert at the same time. --Hammersoft (talk) 22:03, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

User photos

If you're willing, I would like for you to add your comments to Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2011 December 3. The core issue is, if you hand someone your camera so they can take a picture of you, who owns the copyright? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:00, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Im not jumping into that mess, but I will say that the deleting admin is technically correct. However some common sense should be applied in these cases, in my opinion. ΔT The only constant 01:16, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

IRC Bots

Haven't seen you much around IRC recently, but a net split took out IRC bot #8 down a few days ago, and probably a few more you don't know about. Would you mind firing them back up please? Thanks, -- DQ (t) (e) 18:30, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Just double checked 8 was the only one down. ΔT The only constant 19:50, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Δbot

Δbot automatically deletes manually listed SPI reports.—Ryulong (竜龙) 00:04, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Examples: [1] [2] [3] [4]Ryulong (竜龙) 00:06, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

That would be due to user error. In the first situation the SPI lacked {{SPI case status}} which did not classify it as an active case. In the other cases the reports where listed, however the users where adding them to the wrong subpages. ΔT The only constant 00:48, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Edit summary

Sorry for me being such a paranoid dick. Keep up the good work. Like seeing you around, regardless of how much this thread might have suggested otherwise. Just didn't understand what you were doing, but that's not your fault, perhaps I am just a plain idiot.
PS: I still live on the same side of this plate. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 11:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

What is the intention behind this edit and what is the rationale for the edit summary you provided for that edit? Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 08:57, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

The edit summary pretty much explains everything, I was fixing several typos, and applying AWB gen fixes. ΔT The only constant 10:53, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
The edit summary says the edit changes
attatched to attached and
of it's to of its
When I look at the diff, I see that the edit also did the following:
  • change mail. <ref name="ISSRG"/> to email.<ref name="ISSRG"/>
  • change too. <ref>http://www.astronautix.com/craft/intation.htm</ref> to too.<ref name="astronautix.com">http://www.astronautix.com/craft/intation.htm</ref>
  • change March 1986. <ref>http://www.astronautix.com/craft/nasodule.htm#chrono</ref> to March 1986.<ref name="astronautix.com"/>
  • change 4,550 kg to 4,550 kg
  • change port<ref>http://www.pbs.org/spacestation/station/russian.htm</ref>. to port.<ref>http://www.pbs.org/spacestation/station/russian.htm</ref>
Are all these changes listed at WP:AWB/T? If so, what about providing a link to that page? If not, what about creating for example a page somewhere listing these changes and linking to that page in the edit summary? You said here you like the mentoring idea. I am not officially your mentor, but I think it would be a good idea to provide an exact summary somewhere of what such an edit is doing and provide a link to that page in the edit summary. I hope you don't take it as criticism, but as suggestion from me. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 11:46, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Those all come from AWB's gen fixes (Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/General fixes), which is very common to apply while making other AWB edits. ΔT The only constant 11:50, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Okay thanks, I didn't know that. This just shows me how broken some things are (and I am not referring to you or your edits). Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 12:51, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

"Cleanup" edit summary inappropriate for restructuring all article references

In September 2011, you edited Alberto Gonzales to move all of the references into the reflist section and template, and described the edit as "cleanup".

This is not a cleanup edit, but a much more significant edit that completely transforms previous practices of editing of the article. Edit diff, dated 14:32, September 9, 2011.

I ask that when you undertake a major restructuring all of the references of an article by moving all of the references into the reflist template at the bottom of the article, that you indicate the change with an edit summary that actually describes the edit. I suggest something like "moved all references to bottom of article in reflist template". This will allow subsequent editors to understand more easily when and by whom significant changes of this nature were made, without having to find the change by viewing the article diffs for an uncertain amount of edits or period in the article's edit history.

Statue photos

I'm guessing you won't want to drag yourself into yet another ANI discussion, but I wonder if you could comment to me on the true copyright status of File:Honuswagnerstatue.JPG and File:Athletes monument.jpg I think they should have the same non-free status, due to the failure of "freedom of panorama" restrictions. What say you? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:09, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

I would have to agree that these are non-free files. ΔT The only constant 01:11, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Elen made the rather astonishing statement at ANI that commons doesn't believe statues in public places are protected by copyright, and that's why the uploader could get away with posting the Wagner statue photo. What's that about? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:22, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Elen is wrong, its just a matter of no one catching the issue. see commons:Commons:FOP#United States. They treat it as copyrighted too. ΔT The only constant 01:25, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
OK, in her comments to Fastily just now, I think she's backing off a bit. I think what she said at ANI is not necessarily commons policy, but merely inference from observation. Fastily's going to raise the issue at commons. It will be interesting to see what they do, if anything, about the Wagner statue photo. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:31, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Fastily has posted an RFD at Commons in regard to the Wagner statue photo. Hopefully someone there can give us an unambiguous ruling. Thank you for your thoughts and comments. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:43, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Question on renamed file

Hi there. This edit that you made broke a link to to a transcluded page, so I undid it. It appears that your other edits (such as this) broke links to the file as well. Can you clarify? Thanks. Makeemlighter (talk) 21:33, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Not sure what happened there, those edits shouldnt have happened. /me scratches his head trying to figure out what happened. ΔT The only constant 03:23, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
