If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Original Cherry Assassins requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Ironholds (talk) 10:59, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are many sites that are happy for people to write about themselves and their bands, but Wikipedia is different: as an encyclopedia it is selective about article subjects. The criterion used is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." For bands, in particular, the requirements are explained at WP:BAND. Also, people are discouraged from writing about themselves and their own concerns, because of the WP:Conflict of interest involved.

As it happens, I am on the same side of the world as you, but that doesn't matter, because my own opinion is irrelevant. The question is, have people independent of the band thought it important and significant enough to write substantial comment about? See WP:42 for what that means. Has it had a song in the national charts, released two albums on a major label, or otherwise met the criteria of WP:BAND?

If it has (but only if it has) I suggest you read WP:Your first article and WP:BESTCOI and write a draft article - see Help:Userspace draft for how to do that. A link from the draft will allow you to submit it to WP:Articles for creation, where either it will be accepted or you will be given feedback.

But unless you can show independent references to establish that it meets WP:BAND, Wikipedia is not for what you want to do. Myspace or Facebook will let you write a page to tell people about "the history of the band and where our music originated."

Article userfied[edit]

Many of our 3,800,000 articles are substandard, and so What about those other articles? is not an argument that is accepted - each one is considered on its own merits.

I have "userfied" the article - moved it into your user space at User:0807733m/The Original Cherry Assassins where you can work on it and add independent references to show how it meets WP:BAND. Read WP:Your first article for advice. Also read WP:BESTCOI and, in any discussions, declare your interest - that you are the manager of the band. Take care not to make it sound in any way promotional - the WP:Verifiability policy requires that: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source. An encyclopedia article is quite different from, say, a Facebook page, and should not make claims like "noted for their unusual vocal style" unless you can provide a source.

Other links you may find helpful:

If you need help, you can ask at the WP:Help desk or put {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page (two curly brackets each side) with a question below it.

When it is ready, clicking the "submit" button in the box at the top will add it to the "Articles for creation" queue; either it will be accepted, or you will be told why not. JohnCD (talk) 18:06, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
