Downtown line[edit]

Honestly, isn't it a little too early to nominate Downtown MRT line for GA? Many portions, especially the History portion, need to be rewritten entirely, the lead needs to be refocused, and most of the cited sources are primary ones. What im doing is I'm going to use DTL as a 'test' GAN and also a PR, and maybe like Sengkang somehow becomes a GA.1.02 editor (talk) 23:06, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Listing good articles[edit]

Thanks for the Si GAN pass! I still intend to expand it further (this is one of those really important elements that deserve to be FA sooner or later), but I should note that after passing a GAN, you're expected to add the newly passed article to the list of GAs at Wikipedia:Good articles (it isn't done automatically). I've done that for you already. ^_^ Double sharp (talk) 07:04, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ESEAP Conference 2018[edit]

Hello,

I’m Punchalee, a member of the Communication Committee of the ESEAP Conference. ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region: ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5–6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for these Wikimedia communities.

East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific are the most under-represented regions within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors in our regions, yet we continue to struggle in establishing a well-managed community. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together in order to better understand the issues and to look for solutions. It also aims to connect people of the Wikimedia movement within ESEAP regions, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations that are impossible to achieve through online communication.

We’ve got a lot of participation from several countries, but we’re lacking from your country. As we need more participants from your country, we believe that your contribution and participation would be a valuable asset to the success of this event. If you would like to participate in the conference, please do fill the form as soon as possible (by April 5, 2018) and we’ll inform you if you get selected for the conference.

Thank you and we hope to see you soon. --Pilarbini (talk) 10:26, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 1.02 editor! Not too long ago you mentioned some improvements that need to be made to get the SS Choctaw to Good Article status. One of these was that the sections need sorting out. You recommended having four sections, design and construction, History, collision, discovery. But there are also two other sections about searches, and the description of the vessel today. Please could you specify what I should do with these sections?

Best wishes:GreatLakesShips (talk) 18:48, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@GreatLakesShips: maybe you can put the searches under the discovery section, or have a section called 'Searches' and have a discovery subsection. Thanks. 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 01:16, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2018 May newsletter[edit]

The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
  • Republic of Texas Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
  • India Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
  • Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
  • United States Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
  • San Francisco Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
  • South Carolina Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs

So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! I'm back[edit]

Hi. Nice to see you doing well, from someone doing up minor edits in November last year to someone being named as one major contributor to Wikipedia. Congrats. While, in the past few months, I have been blocked for a while and I just recently filed an appeal, so I am back! If you can help, take more pics on the west side of Singapore MRT, especially Jurong East's, as all the pics of that station seems outdated. The MRT articles really changed a lot, but still some needs more citations, changes in expression, etc.--ZKang123 (talk) 09:48, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ZKang123: haha nice to see you back! I've semi retired from here as I need to cut down on the time I spend on wiki, but I'll continue to make changes here and there. Just an update on things here, we have a returnee - Quek157- and maybe you would like to contribute to the new Jurong Region MRT line articles. Re : Rant[edit]

Hi, saw your long rant etc. and thought just to leave a note.

I assume you have see the long list of former SG Wikipedians who left after various reasons. With various time / effort commitments and the lack of recognition, especially from schools, a lot of us probably has lesser time and effort to commit themselves to Wikipedia.

As Wikipedia is not especially welcome in Singapore's education system and being shunned by the educators, the wrong mindset and attitude leads to the dearth of SG editors. As an exception, Sgconlaw aka Jacklee had a few classes of students using Wiki as a tool to educate his classes and bring some law related articles to higher standards and we never know how many more new editors came on board. Then again he is an avid editor who still edits here and there once a while like the others.

While the mainly working class editors have less time to commit and write, some of them still come back to help to edit, fix, just giving advice to new editors or collaboration on articles in other way. I am a mediocre editor so I helped in the mundane tasks and the occasional editing (minor stuff) as and when I can or have the time.

So find your niche or what you like to do (I was on an adding of succession box spree for a while) which I think you have a few, come back and visit and edit as needed.

Being typically Singaporeans, there are probably a few silent editors and those who do not dare to speak up on talk pages, so do not despair and give up. Treat editing as a hobby!

All the best in your studies~

WikiCup 2018 July newsletter[edit]

The third round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles, a first time contestant, with 1756 points, a tally built largely on 27 GAs related to the Olympics
  • Scotland Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three GAs on natural history and astronomy topics
  • Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with a variety of submissions related to transport in the state of Washington

Contestants managed 7 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 120 good articles, 1 good topic, 124 DYK entries, 15 ITN entries, and 132 good article reviews. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 458 GA reviews, in comparison to 244 good articles submitted for review and promoted. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process; several submissions, particularly in abstruse or technical areas, have needed additional work to make them completely verifiable.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Hello, thank you for reviewing the Thessaloniki Metro page. I've put a lot of love into it. How do you suggest moving forward to get it to GA or FA status? Thanks again. --Philly boy92 (talk) 04:33, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Philly boy92: the article seems sound apart from some minor issues such as formatting and grammar. However, I personally would prefer to wait until the system is completed before nominating it for GA as the criteria for a GA article includes that the article must be stable (content does not change much from day to day). WikiCup 2018 September newsletter[edit]

The fourth round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The eight users who made it to the final round had to score a minimum of 422 points to qualify, with the top score in the round being 4869 points. The leaders in round 4 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles scored a magnificent 4869 points, with 92 good articles on Olympics-related themes. Courcelles' bonus points alone exceeded the total score of any of the other contestants!
  • Hel, Poland Kees08 was second with 1155 points, including a high-scoring featured article for Neil Armstrong, two good topics and some Olympics-related good articles.
  • Scotland Cas Liber, with 1066 points, was in third place this round, with two featured articles and a good article, all on natural history topics.
  • Other contestants who qualified for the final round were Marshall Islands Nova Crystallis, Republic of Texas Iazyges, Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, Wales Kosack and United States Ceranthor.

During round four, 6 featured articles and 164 good articles were promoted by WikiCup contestants, 13 articles were included in good topics and 143 good article reviews were performed. There were also 10 "in the news" contributions on the main page and 53 "did you knows". Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs!
