Welcome to Wikipedia from the Anatomy Wikiproject![edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia from WikiProject Anatomy! We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of anatomy articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are involved in editing anatomy articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing anatomy articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
  • We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
  • We write for a general audience. Every reader should be able to understand anatomical articles, so when possible please write in a simple form—most readers do not understand anatomical jargon. See this essay for more details.

Feel free to contact us on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. I wish you all the best on your wiki-voyages! --Tom (LT) (talk) 07:21, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

December 2015[edit]

Hello, I'm NicatronTg. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Femoral head  with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Lucas "nicatronTg" Nicodemus (talk) 07:29, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summary[edit]

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to USAF does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! - theWOLFchild 05:52, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, 140.32.16.52. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.
Please read Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest guidelines before editing any articles related to the United States military or government to ensure you are in compliance.

November 2016[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Discectomy has been reverted.
Your edit here to Discectomy was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-OfUzB1_Ek) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. References[edit]

Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN. We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:41, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikipedia. We have compiled some guidance for new healthcare editors:

  1. Use high-quality sources for medical content (see WP:MEDRS). High-quality sources include review articles (which are not the same as peer-reviewed), position statements from nationally and internationally recognized bodies (like CDC, WHO, FDA), and major medical textbooks. Lower-quality sources are typically removed.
  2. Reference tags generally go after punctuation, not before; there is no preceding space.
  3. We use very few capital letters and very little bolding. Only the first word of a heading is usually capitalized.
  4. Common terms are not usually wikilinked; nor are years, dates, or names of countries and major cities.
  5. Do not use URLs from your university library's internal net: the rest of the world cannot see them.
  6. Include page numbers when referencing a book or long journal article.
  7. Format references consistently within an article and be sure to cite the PMID for journal articles and ISBN for books; see WP:MEDHOW.
  8. Never copy and paste from sources; we run detection software on new edits.
  9. The ordering of sections typically follows the instructions at WP:MEDMOS.
  10. Think carefully before working on featured articles (these have a gold star at top right). It is often hard to improve featured articles.
  11. Talk to us! Wikipedia works by collaboration at articles and user talkpages.

Once again, welcome, and thank you for joining us. Please share these guidelines with other new editors.

Moving here[edit]

"Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal degenerative disease characterized by the progressive atrophy of motor neurons. Additionally, it is marked by the sclerosis, or scarring, of the lateral regions of the spinal cord. Thus the brain’s ability to initiate and control motor movement is lost as the disease progresses. The early signs of ALS include muscular weakness and difficulty in speaking, swallowing, and using the hands. However, sensory and intellectual functions remain unaffected, as evidenced by the accomplishments of astrophysicist and best-selling author Stephen Hawking, who was stricken with ALS in college. Despite near total paralysis, he remains highly productive and communicates with the aid of a speech synthesizer and computer.

Most cases occur when astrocytes fail to reabsorb the neurotransmitter glutamate from the tissue fluid. Glutamate remains in the synaptic cleft and continuously excites the neuron, while a mutated SOD-1 protein fails to reduce superoxides. 5-10% of ALS cases are familial, caused by genetic inheritance, whereas sporadic cases account for approximately 90-95% of all cases.

Saladin, Kenneth S, Stephen J. Sullivan, and Christina A. Gan. Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function. , 2015. Print. "

Refs need to be placed behind the text they support and textbooks need page numbers. See WP:MEDHOW for formating. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:27, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

April 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to Edina High School appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Read your talk. See WP:NOTGOSSIP irreverent if it is properly sourced or not.

You've only evinced your own inability to read the very policy you're citing. I don't think you went further then "oh, NOT GOSSIP! Gonna slap this on his page!"
The sources are reputable, and per the very policy you just posted, it warrants inclusion.
I appreciate you trying to bully IP addresses. Removing your nonsensical warning. --140.32.16.52 (talk) 06:57, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

July 2017[edit]

I reverted the Michael Del Zotto page. This story was covered by many news outlets, including the Toronto Sun and GQ magazine. You might try rephrasing it though. GQ calls Lisa Ann a Sirius radio host and star of adult films. That sounds more "neutral" than your description using the word "porn". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:CD8F:C70:F4E2:EB6E:1E9C:1CAD (talk) 14:05, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
the same incident is included on Lisa Ann's Wikipedia page. Again, it is phrased in a more neutral tone...but why is it considered "gossip" if reported on his page and and then subsequently removed. But it goes without incident on her page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:CD8F:C70:F4E2:EB6E:1E9C:1CAD (talk) 14:16, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at South Paulding High School. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. I'm sure a military academy has sophisticated enough servers to tell them exactly who made the edit you added to the above article. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to South Paulding High School, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Swarm 06:18, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
