Hello, and thanks for making Wikipedia a reliable venue for information. I am delighted to work with everyone in this shared mission, and welcome your assistance in placing this edit in the correct way. In this particular case, we have a unique cultural experience engendered in the local community. Wikipedia's mission statement, and policy on values, outreach etc. embrace inclusion and respect for local cultures and conventions. The best known public exposure to this naming convention may be the local university alumni Men's Rugby Team, "The Arbutian Revolution", per this source: [1] Note that their presence across the internet, social media and their work as traveling goodwill ambassadors has ingrained the name of our proud citizenry far and wide, as proof of the "Arbutian" naming through common usage. However, I must plea mea culpa to the second and unsubstantiated name of "Arbutusians", which was included as a courtesy to the original contributor. As you correctly state, that unsubstantiated trailing words "or Arbutusians" should be deleted from my update, while preserving the correct and now cited edit of "Residents of Arbutus are often called Arbutians". I need your help to properly formalize and submit the following revised edit.

Residents of Arbutus are often called Arbutians. [2]

Below is a a more complete explanation of my initial attempt to restore this important passage (with the above caveat) to the wikipage. Thanks for your help on this and please let me know how we can proceed to restore this properly. Greg --- Wikimedia, I am honored to be a long-time sustaining member of Wikipedia, perhaps the finest achievement of community-based enlightenment and knowledge-sharing in human history. Most remarkable to me is that Wikipedia is supported by the cooperation of the global community. While everyone contributes in their own way, let's take a moment to acknowledge the stellar contributions of the most prolific contributors, including User:Deisenbe - without whom Wikipedia would be immeasurably diminished. However, in the case of local or community achievements and identities, there are some occasions where the truth is unexpected and unique - thus providing a spontaneous and authentic dimension that at a glance seems too good to be true. Two such examples in the greater Arbutus Maryland area include: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMBC_Retriever

On March 16, 2018, the Retrievers men's basketball team defeated the #1 ranked Virginia Cavaliers in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The result marked the first time a 16-seed had ever defeated a 1-seed in the tournament out of 135 previous match-ups.[3][4]

The other example, which is my case in point, is the fact that residents of Arbutus remain proud to be Arbutian. This self-applied designation is so extraordinary, befitting and genuine that is has become ingrained as an insouciant and distinctive touchstone to the community, essentially woven into the fabric and portrait of the community. Again, the wisdom of Wikipedia policy gives special weight to the impacted community, while soliciting local inputs of those directly addressed in the article's content. it is noteworthy that Arnold Schwarzenegger has read "Letters From Home" to the troops at USO shows, where he conveyed the spirit of "Proud to be American, and proud to be Arbutian" to the honored serviceman from Arbutus, and everyone championing freedom around the world. A UMBC Rugby Team has adopted this as part of their name https://www.facebook.com/ArbutianRevolution/ While the influence of this cultural insight has sadly waned in recent years, Arbutians are working hard to retain this existential experience for future generations, and need this revelation acknowledged in the Wikipedia article of interest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbutus,_Maryland Thus, with this local history and insight in mind, I respectfully request that the well-intentioned revision shown in the attached version comparison be reverted with editor notes to retain the restoration in perpetuity, and that Wikipedia continue to respect all cultures and communities throughout the world.

Sincerely, Gregory E. Smith 05:37, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
