Penn State Scandal[edit]

I would like to quickly point out to you that the scandal you added to the page University of Pennsylvania actually occurred at Pennsylvania State University. So... not at Penn State-Philadelphia but at Penn State-State College? It seems like that's not totally clear from the news. Are you sure? I just want to make sure so I don't make the same mistake twice.--208.54.37.188 (talk) 00:29, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am positive. Penn State refers to Pennsylvania State University a public college in University Park, Pennsylvania. UPenn refers to the University of Pennsylvania an Ivy League university in Philadelphia. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:33, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so different campuses. OK. But Penn State's page says they are state-supported -- as is any university that receives federal money for research. Also, University of [state name] is a public school in every instance I know of. Are you sure UPenn is private; or, that both schools are not private/some mix of public and private?
As for one being an Ivy League school... I'm not sure that is necessary to distinguish the two campuses. No reason to be snooty about it, IMHO--208.54.37.188 (talk) 00:38, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They aren't even two different campuses. They are two completely different schools. Penn State is a public (and therefore state) school. The University of Pennsylvania is not a state school. It is a private university with no affiliation to Penn State. As for it being an Ivy League school, I only brought that up because it is an easy way to see the distinction that they are two separate universities. Penn State is in the big 10 and UPenn is an Ivy. Look, I'm trying to assume good faith here, but I am beginning to think that you are trolling. If you are not, this is the website for Penn State, this is the website for the University of Pennsylvania. They are clearly two entirely different universities, I believe the discussion is getting to a point where it is not productive for the encyclopedia so we should let this issue drop. Ryan Vesey is absolutely correct. The University of Pennsylvania is a private institution; its name was in place long before the first U.S. public universities were created, as it pre-dates the American Revolution. Pennsylvania State University is a public institution, and it is the one that is involved in the scandal. The only thing the two have in common are that they are universities located in Pennsylvania.
