Martin K. Ndichu[edit]

Petty Officer Third Class Martin Ndichu was born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1994 to Emmah and Richard Ndichu. His family relocated to the United States in 2010. In 2013, he graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Kansas. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, July of 2013. Following completion of basic training, SR Ndichu reported to Hospitalman Apprenticeship School on the Medical Training Campus, Fort Sam Houston San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion, HR Ndichu reported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA in February of 2014. HN Ndichu reported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda (WRNMMC) in March of 2016. He initially served in the Directorate of Surgical Services, Department of Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy Services (OT Clinic). He was nominated for the Blue Jacket of the Quarter (BJOQ) award three quarters in a row in FY 17, and meritoriously advanced to E-4 (HM3) in July, 2017. He was recently nominated for the Junior Sailor of the Year (JSOY) award for FY 17. HM3 Ndichu is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland University College pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, with a major in Health Care Management and minor in Law for Business. He is also a registered Medical Assistant and a Registered Medical Secretary (Medical Services). HM3 Ndichu is also actively involved in his local community, and regularly volunteers with numerous organizations. As a Free and Accepted Mason, he is a frequent volunteer at charitable events. He is actively involved in the Emergency Call Line for the Birthright community in Norfolk, Virginia, providing a listening ear and resource services to victims of abusive homes. He is an active big brother in the Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) program in Hyattsville, Maryland. In the past three years, HM3 Ndichu has played in the Norfolk Blues Rugby Club and is currently enrolled in the Potomac Exiles Rugby Club in Maryland. HM3 Ndichu’s goals include completing his academic degrees and one day becoming a Command Master Chief of in the United States Navy.
