January 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm SovalValtos. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Ponterwyd, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 18:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion, you may be blocked from editing. The king of the sun (talk) 19:25, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do you 'source' a Welsh-language pronunciation? As I stated in my summary, such resources do not exist as Welsh othography is phonemic. This means that the relationship between spelling and pronunciation is transparent. If every Welsh pronunciation requires a source in this manner, than almost every IPA for Welsh place names on Wikipedia would have to be removed, as they are not 'sourced'. Please think a moment here. 2A00:23C7:7C9B:AB01:B0C7:6A2B:FF25:DB4F (talk) 19:31, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
SovalValtos and The king of the sun, please note that this might be a case of WP:BLUESKY. It is not clear that rendering Welsh pronunciations that are uncontroversial in IPA requires a citation. Adding citations to leads has its own problems per MOS:LEADCITE. I saw the mass adding of the IPA pronunciations yesterday, but checked them and they were all consistent with the regular pronunciation of standard Welsh. Also, we might consider that this editor appears to be in good faith, attempting to improve the encyclopaedia but may not be full familiar with how we do things here, so a bit of leeway per WP:BITE would seem to be in order.
However, to 2A00:23C7:7C9B:AB01/64, I would just suggest that there is no hurry here, and the best way to take this forward would be to take this to talk pages. Either settle on one page to have the discussion and await consensus there, or you could try starting a new subject here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wales to see if editors of Welsh articles could form a consensus on this. But do make use of the talk pages, rather than just re-asserting edits. That just gets things reverted again. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tal-y-Bont[edit]

You are of course quite right about the pronunciation, and I have added it back in. I would be grateful if you would check my translation of the two short sections that I copied from the Welsh article. Ehrenkater (talk) 19:31, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for corroborating! I can confirm that your translations are 100% correct. 2A00:23C7:7C9B:AB01:B0C7:6A2B:FF25:DB4F (talk) 19:33, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
