BBC or BBC News or BBC Sport[edit]
Hello there. BBC (which stands for British Broadcasting Corporation) is a national broadcaster, a statutory corporation with a royal charter. Both BBC News and BBC Sport, while operating under the BBC name or "brand," are separate divisions of the corporation. For instance, BBC News is not the same as the BBC World Service; the former is a division while the latter is an international broadcaster owned by the BBC.
Personally, I think it is appropriate to differentiate between the mere "BBC" and "BBC News" or "BBC Sport," as we differentiate "NBC News" and "NBC Sports" (and do not simply but "NBC"); the same can be said for CBS (CBS News and CBS Sports) and Fox (Fox News and Fox Business). To be clear, sources like CBS News and CBS Sports are not separate "brands," and are mere divisions of CBS, but most editors clarify CBS News between CBS Sports because they operate independently from one another, just like BBC News has its own key individuals that are separate from the BBC at-large.
