{{helpme}} I need help with how to use the "name=" tag in referencing the same source more than once within the same article. Examples of usage would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you read Help:Footnotes#Multiple citations of the same reference or footnote? Algebraist 11:37, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} re name= with ref tags, neither double quote key nor single quote key on my keyboard generate the right double quotes needed to go with the tag. I am using MS Word version 7. Have same problem with NotePad. Any ideas? Thanks.

There's probably a setting somewhere in the preferences that'll force Word to produce simple ASCII quotations marks (I think you want to turn off smartquotes), but just editing Wikipedia directly with your browser ought to work fine. Algebraist 16:15, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}I need help with deleting two images of the same building I have uploaded. One of the images is crooked and the file name I gave to the other, an improved image of the first, brings up a different image. I want to delete both of the images I have uploaded or change the file name of the one that clashes with an identical file name. Can you help? Thanks.

As far as I can see, you uploaded just one file, called File:8 Montpelier Square.jpg. The other image you think you uploaded, was probably using a name that was already in use by a different file. You will need to find a new name for it i guess. Can you indicate if File:8 Montpelier Square.jpg is the crooked image? Do you want it deleted? You can see your own uploads here btw. This link is also in the toolbox at the left of your userpage under "Logs". —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I would like to delete this File:8 Montpelier Square.jpg file. How can I do this? 3ig-350125 (talk) 15:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot delete it yourself, since you are not an administrator. If you want to use the same name, it is easiest to go to the image page and find the "Upload a new version of this file" link at the bottom. You can then upload a new version of the file with the same name, that will replace the old image. Otherwise just make a new upload and edit the old page and add {{db-f1|newname}}. Adding that to an image page means that you think the image is redundant to the image "newname" and should be deleted by an adminstrator. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:29, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done it. Thanks. 3ig-350125 (talk) 15:55, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You uploaded File:8MontpelierSquareLondon.jpg, but it does not have license information. If you do not specify the license, the image will be automatically deleted. See also Wikipedia:Image licensesTheDJ (talkcontribs) 23:48, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I own the original image. It is my own work. I definitely indicated this, or so I thought, when I uploaded it, but obviously not. How can sort this out retrospectively?3ig-350125 (talk) 00:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is a difference between source/author and license. The license tells how you allow OTHER people to use the image, the source/author just says who created it, and where it was created. All of these are required for the image to remain on wikipedia. The allowed licensens are listed hereTheDJ (talkcontribs) 00:14, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You have to choose one of the options from this list and understand what they mean. (allowing others to edit, share and reuse your image, even for commercial purposes). You pick the license that you think suits your best. for most people this will be 'cc-by-sa-3.0'. Then you add this template to the image description page, by choosing the edit link at the top of this page. You can just add the template ( the {{templatename}} part described in the list of licenses) to the imagedescription page. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 00:58, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mamaine Koestler requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. 2 says you, says two 22:11, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mamaine's life with Arthur Koestler sheds important light on the life of Arthur Koestler in the 1940s and 1950s. These details and other details of Arthur Koestler's relationship with the many women in his life (three wives and many other relationships) make it unencyclopedic to detail them in Arthur Koestler's Wiki page, hence this page.

{{helpme}} How do you undo a "redirect"? 3ig-350125 (talk) 08:05, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by “undo”? Do you mean you “move”d a page by accident, creating a redirection that you think should not exist? Did you move a page by error and you want to undo it and restore the previous state? Or did you replace the content of an article by a redirection? Can you precise, preferably with a concrete example? Calimo (talk) 08:32, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Calimo, Thanks for offer of help. The page Dialogue with Death (title of a book) redirects to Spanish Testament which is a book that originally incorporated Dialogue with Death. Subsequently Dialogue with Death had been decoupled from Spanish Testament and, with minor modifications, is now a stand-alone title. I wish to create a new page for Dialoge with Death. 3ig-350125 (talk) 08:54, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Previous comment moved from User_talk:Calimo#Help_with_undoing_.22Redirect.22 to preserve discussion
Ok, I understand now. Go to Dialogue with Death. You see a link “(Redirected from Dialogue with Death)” just under the title. Click on it. Now you are on the page “Dialogue with Death” (and not on Spanish Testament anymore) and you can start editing it. You'll note the redirection syntax. Just remove it and replace it with the content you want! Calimo (talk) 09:04, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can also read Help:Redirect#Changing_a_redirect and Wikipedia:Redirect which give useful information. Calimo (talk) 09:07, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Arthur Koestler book covers and other images[edit]

The article Arthur Koestler book covers and other images has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Picture gallery.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 14:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The rationale for the page is to demonstrate (a) the variations in book covers from edition to edition, (b) variations between US and UK editions, and (c) to illustrate relevant personalities and events. The inclusion of all of these within the main article Arthur Koestler woukld make it too large and cluttered. By adding a link to the page in the main article of the subject, readers would be able to find further information. 3ig-350125 (talk) 15:14, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
