The 1972 book "Race War in High School" by faculty member Harold Saltzman.[edit]

This book is an accurate accounting of events that took place at Franklin K. Lane High School in Queens County, NY (a borough of New York City). Sadly, the change in school atmosphere between 1959 and 1970 was so dramatic that even a daily police presence could not improve it. During this time a well-liked chemistry teacher was assaulted immediately outside the school, beaten, and set on fire. Prior to this period, however, large numbers of graduates went on to study at New York University, Columbia University, St. Francis College, SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Albany, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, City College of New York and others. To leave this book out of the history of the school is to deny actual events and their causes. 71.244.117.71 (talk) 18:53, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was a student there during the school riots, as was my two siblings. I also taught there in 1971. 71.244.117.71 (talk) 19:30, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
