October 2011[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I edit Wikipedia too, under the username Trusilver. I noticed that one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Hoverfly with this edit, appeared to be unconstructive, and I’ve reverted it. In the future, please use the sandbox for testing and be sure to provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Please feel free to ask me questions about editing Wikipedia (or anything else) on my talk page. Trusilver 16:52, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you say it was unconstructive? Are you saying that hoverflies are not called wannabees? I happen to know that they are named so.

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Hoverfly with this edit. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Wikipelli Talk 16:59, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My edit was constructive. I added a very often used common name to the list of names given to hoverflies. Please offer some evidence that this name is not a real name before accusing me of vandalism.

It is difficult if not impossible to prove a negative. I strongly suggest that you provide a reliable reference to support your addition to the article. Wikipelli Talk 17:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Try "wannabee fly" in google images and you will find many images of the hoverfly. I'm not just making this up. However it may be difficult to find the name mentioned in literature since it is exists mainly in the vernacular and not so much at formal registers. The name can be obscured in internet searches because of the expression "wannabe".
