I removed the phrase "non-generic." I feel that in this context "non-generic" is confusing. In popular speech, generic means generalized as opposed to specific. In this case, it appears "leaf-cutter ant" is general as opposed to specific. So while "non-generic" may be correct according to the technical meaning of "genera," it is likely to be confusing to lay-people (it was confusing to me). In addition, the subsequent text makes clear that "leaf-cutter ant" is a descriptive grouping spanning genera. Finally, the two commas right there at the beginning make the first sentence of the article flow poorly.
