David Gerard[edit]

The editor David Gerrard has begun an edit war over an insignificant article about an insignificant, forgotten, minor singer called Tam White. The article claimed - without any supporting reference or citation - that in 1975, White was the first singer ever to sing live on Top of the Pops. A ludicrous statement, easily proven to be total rubbish. Here is a clip of Lulu singing live on Top of the Pops in 1971: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FbB2B5eZpY. Here is a clip of ABBA singing live on Top of the Pops in 1974: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmnhyOT2EUE. There are so many more in the archives, but it hardly seems worth the trouble. David Gerard demands accurate citations from anyone who edits wikipedia and blocks them for a month at a time should they disobey him. David Gerard also locks talk pages to prevent the editors in question defending themselves. David Gerard inserted a bogus reference/citation to the article that made no mention of this ludicrous claim. Had any other editor done that, he would have blocked them for a month and locked their talk page. David Gerard is now in violation of the 3RR rule and has also maliciously edited an article adding unsourced, unverified information. Thus David Gerard should be blocked from editing for a month and his talk page should be locked.

Request reason:

He's at it again. David Gerard has maliciously edited an article, providing unverified sources and indeed, adding a bogus source that did not support his editing. I reported this action and posted a summary of his actions. David Gerard believed this to be a 'personal attack' and for the second time has instigated a one month block. Something he does arbitrarily when he is challenged. As you will read from the summary of his action posted on this page, that he deems a 'personal attack', he violates his own norms of behavior by editing articles, abusing the 3RR rule and adding unverified sources. It is time someone took action. I am certain David Gerard will shut down this argument by (for the second time) deleting the summary of his behavior and by confirming his own blocking action. 76.160.6.50 (talk) 19:26, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Your complaint seems to be around whether this edit is appropriate or not. Specifically, whether you are removing cited or uncited information. If I'm mistaken on your claim, please open a new unblock request and clarify your claim and another admin will review it. Taking a look, I see the specific information you are removing is indeed cited in the article itself. The link is no longer active but a quick search in archive.org shows me this which does indeed cite that material. On that basis, I find it inappropriate that you removed the content. Additionally, I find your personal attack in your edit summary violates WP:NPA. I make no claim that the information is factually accurate, but that's not relevant here; see WP:V.
