May 2013[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Ross Wherrity, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:38, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What manual of style? It is a misspelling. The only sources that use it are passing mentions or from about 5 years ago. All the 2013 sources use the correct one. --86.40.198.33 (talk) 01:45, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't like the article called with double r, use WP:RM or otherwisw you may be blocked from editing for edit-warring. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"Donegal were at their clinical best early in the second half with Murphy (3), Rory Kavanagh, Leo McLoone, Ross Wherrity' and Declan Walsh on target." Apparently or he uses both last names or there is a conflict with media to how to call him. As long as the page is titled Ross Wherr'ity readers will considerate Ross Wherity a typo. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:44, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Ross Wherrity with this edit, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:45, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But I've submitted a move request to the correct one. This was to prepare for that.
I gave my reasons. Your action is completely incorrect and inappropriate.
Apparently you don't understand there are two references that uses both styles. I'm going to take it to WP:BLPN as you are active as if this were a war. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:50, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did to Ross Wherrity with this edit, you may be blocked from editing. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:49, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What disruptive editing? All I did was make the use in the EL section consistent with the use in the article. You insist on including a misspelling in a BLP and then slap me with warnings about being disruptive and not giving reasons. I've explained the reasoning. I have no idea why you want to cause a dispute. All I've done is try to make a page more presentable - one of many - and I've never had this sort of trouble with any others. --86.40.198.33 (talk) 01:52, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"It is essential to recognize patterns of disruptive editing. Our edit warring policy already acknowledges that one act, by itself, may not violate policy, but when part of a series of acts that constitute a pattern does violate policy." Instead that trying to resolve something by simple methods like giving more evidence he is called Wherity, and not Wherrity, as current references cite both, you decided to edit-war, that's a diruptive pattern, and I told you not all references follow what you say: "Donegal were at their clinical best early in the second half with Murphy (3), Rory Kavanagh, Leo McLoone, Ross Wherrity and Declan Walsh on target.". If the BBC made a mistake, contact the BBC. Also see Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Ross_Wherrity_.E2.80.8E|BLPN. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 02:02, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Reported here. You do realise the possibility that they were using the spelling you are trying to perpetrate here? You are insistent that one source that uses the misspelling has to be correct and that all the other are wrong. You are dismissing the sources based in Ireland and Australia where he has played - The Examiner, Geelong Advertiser, Donegal Democrat (his local paper!), Hogan Stand, RTÉ, and are using a UK-based source? Where is the sense in that? --86.40.198.33 (talk) 02:12, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I[edit]

Per the red notice on the page, you must notify any user you report with {{subst:ANI-notice}}. I took the liberty of notifying Tbhotch, but please do this in any future reports you may file. Thanks. - Amaury (talk) 02:29, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(1) I notified Tbhotch. (2) Tbhotch had actually responded before I notified him/her.
So now here I am with yet another warning for doing nothing in particular very wrong. :(
You must notify them on their talk page. Also, this was just a general note, not a warning. - Amaury (talk) 02:38, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am not edit warring and would like you to remove that warning. I have explained to Tbhotch here and elsewhere what they are doing wrong. Reverting constructive edits and inserting three or four different versions of misleading information and passing it off as "clean" (as was done) is immensely damaging for Wikipedia's reputation. "Reverting to enforce certain overriding policies is not considered edit warring" as explained at the edit warring page. Adding misleading information to a BLP as Tbhotch did certainly counts as that and, as the edit warring page specifies, "the risk of harm is such that removal is required". I wish you would cut me some slack here and stop treating me as if I am the one doing the damage. But I see, since I am the IP and Tbhotch is the editor hiding behind a false name, that Tbhotch is given more leeway in doing whatever it is that they want. This is an interesting insight into how Wikipedia works and an example of the level of harm it is capable of doing to itself by ignoring its own policies. --86.40.198.33 (talk) 02:56, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the IP vs. user thing, if that's how you feel, please accept my apologies. It's not intentional. I'll strike out the warning and let those involved in the discussion deal with it. Cheers! - Amaury (talk) 03:21, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Regarding the IP vs. user thing, yes that is how I feel. The evidence is in the numerous warnings and automated messages I have been slapped with, while Tbhotch's talk page has had nothing more than a hastily written (but, nonetheless, personally written) note from me asking them to be more careful. --86.40.198.33 (talk) 03:28, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I can't speak for others, but I can say for myself that I treat IPs and users equally on here. So, again, if that's how my warning came off on you, I apologize. Good luck in reaching a consensus. - Amaury (talk) 03:32, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As a gesture, I've removed the warning entirely. - Amaury (talk) 03:38, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, much appreciated. --86.40.198.33 (talk) 03:40, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 86.40.198.33
I noted that a large part of this page is taken up with the 'controversy' section. See Ross Wherrity#Controversy. It took me a fair bit of reading to determine that the entire 'controversy' was that the guy had cut his hair! This seems rather un-encyclopedic. It seems to have been put in by an IP. Assuming good faith I don't know this was you, but as you know about him and him have an interest in this guy could you possibly edit it to be a more encyclopedia like? I would be tempted to totally cut it, unless he is really well known for his hair/ hairstyle!

As for the kerfuffle over his name, I never had much trouble as an IP editor (except from another IP!). Your edits are usually what you are judged on (P.S. I was an IP editor for over 2 years, ≈26 months). Getting into tussles over relatively minor points and edit warring will not get you any kudos! Good to see that you are around (or has your IP changed?), Happy Editing!--220 of Borg 00:52, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
