Problem with your custom signature[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 18:31, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

April 2023[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to HMS Victory, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. - wolf 07:06, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HMS Victory[edit]

This isn't a revert, this is simply a new edit, where you are adding the sourcing you should've included last time. Using the revert function this way is not just disruptive, it's also obnoxious. I would suggest not repeating this behaviour going forward. - wolf 08:40, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wolf,
I would like to express my gratitude for your helpful messages. As someone who is completely inexperienced in this matter, I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused.
Is there a way for me to change the status of the edit from 'revert' to 'new edit'?
Thank you,
Aaron Aaron.Chien (talk) 00:51, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. There's no need to change anything there now. The issue was when someone reverts an edit, the editor they've reverted is notified. This is so they are aware of a possible problem that needed to addressed, and possibly even discussed. But if that is not the case, then the editor has been notified needlessly of a revert that wasn't really a revert. Notifications can't be undone. Some people use these revert notifications to be irksome, but that doesn't seem to have been your intent, so I think we can let the matter rest. Thank you so much for understanding my situation. Have a great day! Aaron.Chien (talk) 17:25, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
