MfD nomination of Talk:Mushfiqur Rahim/GA1[edit]

Talk:Mushfiqur Rahim/GA1, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Talk:Mushfiqur Rahim/GA1 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Talk:Mushfiqur Rahim/GA1 during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Soham 13:29, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abir, I noticed you accidentally opened a page for your own GA nomination, which makes the system think you are the reviewer. I've marked it for deletion so that another reviewer can take this nomination later. You can see details of how the process works at WP:GAN/I. If you have any other queries contact me. A tag has been placed on File:Mushfiqur Rahim training, February, 2009, Dhaka SBNS.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I've deleted that image as despite being useful, you claimed it was your own work when actually it was someone elses - that's a copyright violation. I must ask - what about all the other images on your userpage? Are they your own work or are they someone elses too? We do allow copyrighted work to be uploaded, but only if it's properly attributed and passes our non-free content criteria. One of the key elements of that is that non-free images must not have a free equivalent - in the case of a living person, we can probably find a free equivalent or go and take a photograph, so they are never usually allowed. Thank-you and if you have any questions please contact me on my talkpage, and I would like to have an answer from you about the other cricket images you have uploaded. Disambiguation link notification for February 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bank Roll (movie), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fame (song) (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Admin request[edit]

Might I suggest actually reading the instructions you keep deleting on how to file an RFA? --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 12:27, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RfA transclusion[edit]

Hello Abir Rahman Saif. I just noticed where you reverted an edit at WP:RFA to restore your previous edit, which appears to be your attempt to begin an RfA for yourself. The editor you reverted is a senior editor who was correct for reverting you, and your reversion to reinstated it, was improper and almost certainly enough to ensure your RfA will not gain adequate support to pass. I suggest you ask questions of others about RfA after reading published advice about RfA before accepting a nomination or self nominating, and most importantly, to not proceed with an RfA right away, considering it has problematic associations with your original manner of filling the request.—John Cline (talk) 12:29, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Process[edit]

Good day. I have noticed that you are attempting to nominate yourself for adminship. Your edits to the main RFA page have been removed at least twice.

First, the process is quite clear: there is a page you must fill in, after which you "transclude" it onto the main page without removing other text there.

Second, admins must know and be able to apply policy very well: copyright, the use of non-free images, etc are all key elements - based on recent actions, you seem to be missing that core knowledge

Third, admin candidates typically require at least a year of consistent, policy-based editing and at least 5,000 edits before someone nominates them for adminship.

Fourth (and related to the above), although self-nominations are accepted, they rarely succeed: the normal process is that a well-established editor with a good repuation approaches you based on your knowledge and participation. Having a strong nominator is often key to the RFA process. RFA is a nasty process - and not being prepared makes it even nastier

Please consider reviewing both the process for nomination, AND the recommendations above before proceeding down that road ES&L 12:31, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop[edit]

Far from passing RFA I will block you if you continue to revert as you are doing at WP:RFA Pedro :  Chat  12:36, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is beyond please stop. The user is stretching my ability to assume they are of good faith.—John Cline (talk) 12:38, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked, as the disruption continued after my warning and the one below. Pedro :  Chat  12:41, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is good fortune to me that I happened upon editing in proximity with Pedro, an editor I respect, and enjoy saying hello to from time to time; this being one. And the irony of my knowing, had Abir Rahman Saif been sincere and competent to seek adminship through RfA, he couldn't have done better than to have filed it (correctly), and had you, instead of having to block him, commenting at his RfA; to strengthen the correct consensus, in a well respected voice that inevitably carries much weight. The same would be true of those who commented above as well! Such a waste of RfA !voting assets. I definitely reiterate my above counsel for Abir Rahman Saif, extenuating the likelihood to a guarantee; an RfA will not pass at this time! And any near term filings, for example: right after the block expires, couldn't be considered "good faith" under the most accommodating imagination. Cheers—John Cline (talk) 13:18, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've now closed this as being an unsuccessful request. Please give serious consideration to all aspects before filing another request. All the best. -- Trevj (talk · contribs) 15:36, 20 February 2014 (UTC) And I've also moved it to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Abir Rahman Saif, which is the correct title per the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nominate. -- Trevj (talk · contribs) 15:41, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
