Spam[edit]

Please stop Spamming with this Zeno stuff. It will all be deleted anyway. Johnbod 11:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I answered at the deletion request page -- Achim Raschka 15:36, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think if you just add individual useful links that is fine. I'm pretty sure the templates will be deleted, as we are very sensitive about Spam & they could easily create a bad precedent. Various institutions, like the European Library & a guy for the V&A museum, have got into trouble for "spamming" in the wrong way. But if all or most of your edits are adding external links a bot will pick that up. Some people are more bothered than me by the ads on Zeno. If there already many links to outside image sources, and a Commons page, you need to look hard at the range, for quality and quantity, and decide if Zeno is better, and worth including. If it is, it may be a good idea to remove the weakest one when you add Zeno (not Commons obviously). Also don't always put it top. Hope that helps. Johnbod 11:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Audio Barnstar[edit]

The Audio Barnstar
Your adding of sound samples to Whale song greatly improves the article and gives a clear impression of what whale sounds are like. So you deserve an Audio Barnstar. Thanks!

Correction in List of cities with Stolpersteine[edit]

Thanks for taking care of the removal of V-S. I'm not sure I got the point of the article. Was it to shame the city? Also of interest is this discussion: Löschprüfung#Liste der Städte mit Stolperstein-Gedenktafeln bzw. Liste der Orte mit Stolpersteinen. Marrante (talk) 06:40, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Marrante, the article says that V.-S. never had any Stolperstein because of communal denial. Following the Website of of Gunter Demnig there was an information session in Villingen-Schwenningen but no placement of Stolpersteine. Concerning the German deletion request: long discussions and a compromise to delete - I think this deletion should not be but I'm not involved and don't want to have more discussion on this point. Best regards, -- Achim Raschka (talk) 07:46, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I understood the "what"; it was the "why" that was puzzling to me. So, I guess the answer to my question was "yes". I didn't really get the German WP discussion either, but I didn't have time to read through the entire thing. It seemed like there was good, clear support for the page (not to mention three attempts to establish it (!) but administrative disapproval. A "compromise to delete" doesn't even make sense to me, but I understand your wish to not discuss it further. I replied because I wanted to say a couple of things. Marrante (talk) 11:16, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are totally right and I also would support to get this list in again - what I say is that I'm tired to discuss things over and over again instead of doing other things with my rare time instead. -- Achim Raschka (talk) 11:26, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the main article, adding VS into the "Criticism" section, where they now stand as the only city (that I know about) that has rejected the idea outright. Cologne did initially, but relented (years ago) and was already in the section, but now it has some more current info! With references, of course. I like the comments section to the article you flagged in your original deletion to the List article. Marrante (talk) 13:16, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your HighBeam account is ready![edit]

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:30, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HighBeam[edit]

Hi, I emailed your account activation code manually, since the email bot failed to deliver it for some reason. Please let me know if you did not receive the code. Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:40, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)[edit]

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:05, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Visiting Germany[edit]

Hi! I didn't see any email or facebook message from you, as far as I know. On Facebook I see only a very old message from you about the death of a Wikipedian in 2009!

Well, anyway, yes I would like to try to meet up with local Wikipedians when I am in Germany on March 6th. It is too early now for me to know the full logistics of my trip - I believe my speech is mid-day and so what I usually try to do is come to Europe (from London) and return the same evening if I can - to not stay too long away from my family if I can. But if I am unable to make the last flight out, and I'm in Germany that night, then certainly a Wikipedia dinner is a great idea!--Jimbo Wales (talk) 13:39, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photograph[edit]

Hi Achim,

Thank you for taking an interest in this photograph. I was working with Tshelanyemba Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe a few years ago and I personally know the doctor who extracted the pictured organism from a woman's foot. The doctor had no idea what the organism was, so I took a picture and added it to Wikipedia, hoping that someone would be able to identify it. Are you confident that the organism is a Buprestidae larvae and that such larvae do not bore into human heels?

Disambiguation link notification for April 5[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited John P. Morrissey (biologist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cork (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:00, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
