Rollback

Good day Achowat. Just a quick drop by to ask you, if it's not too much trouble that you look over my contributions to see if I'm doing ok? Also I hoped you had a nice vacation. --Chip123456 (talk) 16:23, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Everything looks to be in good order. I can't point to a single revert that isn't clear vandalism, the warnings are going out great, and the reporting is perfect. I'm glad to see you doing so well. Achowat (talk) 16:27, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure that what I'm doing is ok! --Chip123456 (talk) 16:29, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
I have commented again on your editor review. --Chip123456 (talk) 19:43, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Afternoon

Thought I'd drop by and say hi. Hi! :) MrLittleIrish (talk) 15:23, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Good morning! How can I be of use to you? Achowat (talk) 15:26, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
You can't really, just fancied saying Hi! I would put you in the list of wikipedians I call somewhat friends. :P MrLittleIrish (talk) 15:28, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Category: Wikipedians that Mr Little Irish doesn't, personally, despise? I'd be honored to be on that list Achowat (talk) 15:32, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I would say you are most indeedly in that list of Wikipedians. Either that or Category: Wikipedians that Mr little irish doesn't not like Hur hur. MrLittleIrish (talk) 15:37, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
You don't not un-dislike me? I'm honored, truly honored. Achowat (talk) 15:38, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Moving to London next weekend, get yourself over and I'l not un-dislike you over that pint, and a cookie or muffin or something. MrLittleIrish (talk) 15:41, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
You wanna meet half-way? Achowat (talk) 15:42, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
In the Ocean? Not particularly :P MrLittleIrish (talk) 15:46, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh, come on...where's your sense of Adventure? Achowat (talk) 15:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't have a boat... do you ahve a boat? MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:00, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Fine, we'll go the other way. Halfway the other way (You going East, me going West; so roughly 45°N 109°W) is about 100 km Northwest of Sainshand, Mongolia. The Capital of the Dornogovi Province, there should be places to get a few drinks there. Achowat (talk) 16:02, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Would be easier to get a bout a billion straws, put them end to end, feed it over to you, and let you drink a pint from there. MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:03, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Maybe, but if we were in Sainshand, then we could snap a few photos, go to City hall for some primary documents, check out the public library for news reports and earn {{The Mongolia Barnstar of National Merit}}. Achowat (talk) 16:05, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
True, but if we do my idea, I think we'd be in the guiness worl records for drinking a pint from the furthest distance. MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
But an easily beatable record. Space elevators are going to be made out of straws anyway (well, carbon nanotubes, but whatevs). Achowat (talk) 16:10, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
But you can't drink beer through them! MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:12, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I bet service tension would allow you to. Besides, who wants to drink beer out of a straw? Mongolia is the only option (despite the fact that it would be a longer trip for both of us than, y'know, just meeting in the United {States of America/Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland}. Achowat (talk) 16:16, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

There's always Skype beer... however, I won't be able to buy you the beer. MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:17, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

PayPal? Achowat (talk) 16:19, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
How much is a beer your parts? Haha MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:30, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
That sir, depends on the beer and, of course, exchange rates. I could get, for instance, a Pabst Blue Ribbon for little more than ₤1, a nice beer for no more than ₤4. Of course, you'd have to factor in the requirement that I go and get the beer myself, and of course tip the delivery boy. Achowat (talk) 17:13, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Not a chance. That token is for beer only. MrLittleIrish (talk) 14:16, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism_Unit/Academy/Enroll#Active_Requests_to_Enroll Yay or nay?

Yeah, I'd give him the go. Achowat (talk) 03:51, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

User already has Rollback rights, but wants to be trained in Huggle... Train to 1k edits? Dan653 (talk) 19:53, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I would say we should find someone with Huggle abilities (that rules me out) to work hir through the process. Achowat (talk) 19:56, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Twinkle Icon

Hi, re this correction thank you! --Chip123456 (talk) 19:30, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

My pleasure! Achowat (talk) 19:30, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
You replied very promptly! I'm getting into rollback now, although when I'm not sure I do still use Twinkle!! How is the CVUA system going?--Chip123456 (talk) 19:45, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Right now our faults seem to be in promotion. We, frankly, don't have a good system for getting new users engaged. Achowat (talk) 19:48, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
That is a shame. There is this user who I've been following on the recent changes, who seems to be good. I can't remember his user name but I am sure I will bump into them again. Could I refer them to you?--Chip123456 (talk) 19:50, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Better yet, drop them a {{Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Invite-enrollee}}! You're still doing great in your rollbacks, by the way (yes, I still, from time to time, stalk your edits). Achowat (talk) 19:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
It's good having someone looking at ones edits to make sure all is in order. I will now, drop a note. Have you got any free spaces?--Chip123456 (talk) 19:56, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Of course! I can always make time for new Counter-Vandals. Achowat (talk) 19:58, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Right I will do now! If you want I can sort them out on the enrolling page and then report them to you?--Chip123456 (talk) 20:03, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
I've got the enroll page Watchlisted. But a poke might not be the worst thing. Achowat (talk) 20:03, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I will watch over their contribs and then tell you when they have posted their request, which I hope they will strongly consider doing. --Chip123456 (talk) 20:06, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
It wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to drop them a personal message about your experience in The Academy. Achowat (talk) 20:07, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
I willAdd that now to the message. Give me a sec.--Chip123456 (talk) 20:09, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
 Done--Chip123456 (talk) 20:15, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi Chip, FYI there's a script for rollback i sometimes find useful: User:Porchcorpter/Rollback Summary. I just use the first script listed, which produces [sum] links, on the history page [1]:

(cur | prev) 22:15, 17 May 2012‎ Chip123456 (talk | contribs)‎ . . (12,632 bytes) (+112)‎ . . (→‎Twinkle Icon: Done) (rollback | sum | undo)

and on the diff page [2]:

[rollback (AGF)] || [rollback] || [rollback (VANDAL)]
Latest revision as of 22:15, 17 May 2012 (edit) (undo)
Chip123456 (talk | contribs) (rollback | sum)

Twinkle:

  • "rollback (AGF)" → rollback (with assume good faith edit summary) and optional user warning
  • "rollback" → rollback (with custom summary) and optional user warning
  • "rollback (VANDAL)" → rollback (with vandalism edit summary) and optional user warning

other:

  • "rollback" → normal rollback (no summary)
  • "sum" → rollback with optional edit summary
  • "undo" → undo

~ you probably know all this, it's just for the sake of comparison. Also note that the colors are very, very, approximate ;-) benzband (talk) 08:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

checkY Thanks for telling me, but yes, I know the TW RB's and the granted RB's. Best.--Chip123456 (talk) 15:43, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hey Achowat, the above made me think the CVUA could have a page of mock diffs on which the "enrollees" can say what they would do if they came across each one. benzband (talk) 08:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

If that's within your technical abilities, I'd love to see you sandbox something up. Achowat (talk) 12:43, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey, just created {{wiki diff}}. benzband (talk) 19:08, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Holy hell! That's some good work! Achowat (talk) 19:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I've had to simplify it… that'll have to do for now. Here's my first prototype:

Hey man, I think that guy just liked your ribbons. Why won't you answer a fair question? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.204.233.220 (talk) 17:46, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

If you take a look at the IP's Contributions, you'll see a very clear pattern of Vandalism against people who have put WP:WARN templates on his talk page. It was not a good-faith question, just vandalism. As such, I reverted it. Achowat (talk) 17:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

STiki Questions

Hi! I've read those pages. I have an STiki question for you. When I use STiki, sometimes, I see a section blanking and identify it as vandalism. Then, (like I got last night), the user sends me a message that I warned him after he reverted an edit and blanked a section that a user had created as vandalism. I also sent myself a warning after I identified a section that was full of random characters and deleted it. Can you please give me advice on how to avoid doing this? By the way, I would also like to request rollback soon, as I have been patrolling the edit filter log and the recent changes page for 3 weeks now and have been using Twinkle and STiki for a week now. Thank You! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 17:48, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi Electric, when using STiki you have a set of links that can direct you to the actual wiki-diff and page history. Checking these in cases where you are not too sure can prove useful as it puts the edit back into context. benzband (talk) 17:54, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't use STiki, and before I could see Benzband's response, I posted your question to The Academy's Q&A Page (which is a good resource anyway). Looking at your contributions, it seems as though you're using STiki appropriately. Hopefully at the end of our time together, I'll be nominating you, personally, for the Rollback bit. (And I sure hope Benzo answered your question well). Achowat (talk) 18:00, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Ducknish should've graduated ages ago as he has over 4,000 edits (more than me). Same with Electriccatfish. Dan653 (talk) 23:12, 21 May 2012 (UTC) P.S. Did you get my emails. Any comments?

CVUA Graduation isn't a matter of edit counts, it's about an instructor realizing that a student has learned the Four Steps and the community has decided that the editor can be trusted with Rollback. Electriccatfish has just signed on, there's still a lot more for hir to learn.
As to your email, I definitely think someone should engage the User in civil and nuturing discussion. I can't remember, was this person ever given an up-or-down decision about enrolling? Achowat (talk) 13:37, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Agreed about edit counts, especially electric. Hard to swallow 4k edits for ducknish, but I guess I will (can you ease my mind about that in any way?
Yes, he was approved (Luk3), here's the "vandalized" page [3] (note images) in diffs. Can you also redirect the talk to Wikipedia_talk:Counter-Vandalism_Unit/Academy/Status as all other talk pages are there. Dan653 (talk) 21:00, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Electriccatfish2 just got Rollback, but since I don't think I "taught" hir anything, I'm going to stop by in a few days with just a "How are you finding things?" notice. If everything seems hunky-dory, I'll drop a Graduate temp on there.
I would be hard pressed to call that Vandalism. I think he was just trying to use {{smiley}} but didn't know how. Hanlon's razor, y'know?
The reason I left the Enroll talk non-centralized, is so that we could have an "Instructor's Chat" about a borderline case, if need be. Ducknish has Rollback and I've seen no evidence that Dipankan001 worked with hir at all, so you might want to ask Dipankan what's up with that.
I hope that reasoning makes sense on all counts. Achowat (talk) 21:09, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay.
Okay, I was unaware of smiley template.
Makes sense, I thought it was an oversight. Okay, I'll drop Dipankan a line. Dan653 (talk) 21:19, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
checkY Dan653 (talk) 21:34, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Is there such thing as to many instructors? Dan653 (talk) 23:59, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I really can't see any harm in that. What issues might arise if we have "Too many instructors"? Achowat (talk) 13:21, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
No major ones, but we need more students if we want all of our instructors to feel involved. Dan653 (talk) 21:50, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
