Request for help[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia.

I appreciate your honoring me with a request for help. I'm not an expert on Iceland (although I've visited the beautiful country) or Islam (although I'm privledged to know several Muslims), have not edited the article titled Islam in Iceland and am not a Wikipedia Administrator, so am a little surprised that you so honored me, but appreciate the thought. My local network sysop blocks the site you recommended so I can't review the specific link. I can make some general comments though.

Whenever you add a contribution to an article, if you want to minimize the risk of it being removed, add a link to the article you would reference. The reference text you'd add after the material you add would look something like this: <ref> {{cite web | title = Iceland - International Religious Freedom Report 2006 | publisher = U.S. Department of State | date = 2006 | url = http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2006/71385.htm | format = English | accessdate = 29 August 2009}} </ref> . Of course you use the correct article URL and title... Put that block with the correct material for your link in and try it - it displays down in the reference section. This citation shows the source - others can then verify your material - they are less likely to revise it.

You'll find that every edit you make will not necessarily be permanent, since others may believe they know the topic better than you - that's why sound references are important - I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of this.

Happy editing - Williamborg (Bill) 23:28, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

When I looked at your discussion page to see how my comment read, I realized I'd initially welcomed you to Wikipedia several months back. Sorry that I'd forgotten that (that's what comes of old age). So I know why you honored me.

Later today I'll be at another computer and will try to couple to your link to see if I can use the data to add the reference. Then you'll be able to see how it works by example.

Thanks - Williamborg (Bill) 23:34, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Figured out how to access the referenced article and made the following change "The Association of Muslims in Iceland had 341 members in 2006<ref name="US">[http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2006/71385.htm International Religious Freedom Report 2006]</ref>, which had grown to 402 in 2008<ref>{{cite web | title = Statistics Iceland | date = 2009 | url = http://www.statice.is/Statistics/Population/Religious-organizations | format = English | accessdate = 29 August 2009}}</ref>." Hopefully this addresses your concerns - if not send me another note.

More Links[edit]

You're most welcome. Please send me another note if you need any more help on preparing links for source material or anything else.

You are fortunate to live in Reykjavik - at least in the summer. The combination of clear air, magnificent surroundings and cultural history make it a spectacular place. My wife and I particularly enjoyed seeing Þingvellir, with its combined historical and geologic interest. The house at Laxness where Halldór Laxness lived and wrote was also of interest, perhaps mostly for its historic/literary significance. And Reykjavik had a unique feel - although the prices were rather high...
